Americans are lazy and want things yesterday....so unless they setup super charging stations everywhere and can charge the battery in under 30min tops, Or they have a super service center that can swap a battery out in under 10min, i cant see EV's being used for anything else besides local trips around town. I just went onto Tesla's site to see if it would plan a trip from Chicago to Miami....wont do it for some reason. So i did a shorter trip to Nashville...says you need two charging stops...one 25min the other 50min for a total trip time of 9hrs.
Went onto Google maps for same directions....7hrs and 24min and i've done that trip plenty of times and know it can be done faster then that when your foots to the floor
So who wants to spend more time on the road waiting for their car/truck to charge up when you can be in/out of a gas station in under 10min ...refueling/pissing/getting food etc and be back on the road and still have better mileage (distance wise) before stopping?
Dont get me wrong i see some great potential in this stuff....like i mentioned in another post...i was cool as hell to see that EV hummer do a 4wd burnout...but until it gets as convenient as gas is now, there will be resistance to it.

My wife’s next car will almost certainly be electric. She doesn’t venture further than Savannah or Charleston (90 miles max). She’d love to be able to avoid stopping at gas stations, and I’d like the lower maintenance. We’ve been wagon fans for a long time (3 Merc’s and now a BMW). Might try a Volvo next if they produce the all electric prototype they are exhibiting.
My neighbor routinely drives his Model 3 Performance from here to Detroit. 2 charging stops.

true story about my Tesla visit ..

just for fun, I went to a Tesla location, I wanted to test drive a model 3 just for fun since my wife was out shopping. the Tesla sales guy took my drivers license to photocopy and returned quickly and had with him the credit-card-sized key that runs the Model 3. After getting situated in the car and adjusting all of the mirrors and learning how to put the car in gear, he said to me "you have 20 mins please come back after around 20 mins as there is a waiting line to test drive this car" . I said sure. I then proceeded to drive out of the Tesla parking lot and to my amazement, the simple rear-wheel drive Tesla leaped forward. I was so impressed with that. The car really is fast. I then proceeded to drive on Route1, the car reached 55MPH in no time. The car felt light and nimble. I was driving in and out of traffic which great precision in this Tesla Model 3. I quickly went back to the sales man and said I want to take this home now. He said "these cars are not for sale. Let's try to find you a car." Well as it turns out, there are none available. "Let's put an order for a model 3 for you", he said. We quickly went back to his desk and began to search for availability. I couldn't believe the wait is 7 months long !!!

the first electric car in the us was built in 1890. went 14 mph ford built one in 1913. there was a number of others in Europe. price and range stopped all of them. not much has changed in over 100 years

The tech to make them practical for a larger audience is just not there yet and nobody ever talks about maintenance costs. How long does a battery last and how much will it cost to replace it? Everyday we hear the glowing stories from people trying to push an EV agenda but we don't get the full picture. I'll wait till we know about ownership costs, trade in values and all of the other things associated with car ownership. Oh and have you seen the price of electricity going up? With an ICE vehicle I can shop gas stations and pricing. I don't have any choices for alternate electric companies.
California already has rolling brown outs when people turn on their AC. Imagine people plugging in cars and how that will turn out.
I do see the good side but in reality it's 20 years away from being viable for the masses.
