Not sure what that equals.
It’s always been more expensive to go OB.
Have to weigh the positives though 😉
I like the idea of $35K for a 450R but unfortunately they are pricey and you do have to wait perhaps a year if you are just a consumer placing an order at a dealer.

35k for a 450.... Kidding right?! Much closer to double that from what I’ve seen

Wow.
My bad.

Was visiting a friend a yr ago, who’s friend had this 26 DCB w/some early 450’s on it.

Had to go back and dig out this pic to make sure I wasn’t on crack that day.

My friend told me $35k per, $39k rigged.
He either didn’t know or misspoke by $10k.
(he is struggling w/memory issues)

Sorry bought that.

BTW, same guy had two more on his pontoon and a new 2021 mid engine corvette in the garage, first in the area!

Twin, when the 450's first came out they were saying 50-63K depending on what options. The higher number I think included the controls. So when compared to a couple of the motors below that are a lot more HP, closed cooled, direct injection and have a 2-3 year warranty the conversion doesn't work out. They also make a 550HP version that is cheaper. Even adding the out drives a person would be ahead if they where thinking of a conversion using all new.
Plus you have the price of the conversion.

Doing it with used stuff is much different, or like Velocity on the new builds the outboard makes a lot more sense.

No argument from me.

I sold new Checkmates in ‘1989-ish.

I wanted a twin OB 25’ Convincor bad!
Problem was, the math didn’t work, and I couldn’t afford it.

We had two IO 25’ Convincors in stock and as I recall, they were low $40k’s w/a 454 mag/bravo.

Dealer cost for the same thing w/twin OB’s was low $60’s!

And yeah, if your paying for the conversion on top of it….

For me, you have to look at positives of OB vs IO.
Added space in hull, ease of maint, etc.

Your price of the new OB’s changes things.

Funny too, it makes my ancient 2 strokes look pretty good 😉

The last era of carb’d V-6 200/225 hp JohnRudes we’re pretty good.
They’re light, cheap, easy to work on, plentiful parts etc.

Once warmed up, if tuned properly, they are virtually smoke free.

And yeah on the friend.
The 2nd Vette is his wife’s.

He used to have an IO 21’ Eliminator w/a twin Whipple Charged big block that ran mid 130’s.

Had a B-Mac drive on it and was actually drag racing it against my buddies lightning quick OB’s!
Way co dude.

Gary, you guys hold all the aces for new 4 strokes, the prices here are insane but we can still buy 2 strokes. Yammies are used on commercial tour boats, they run at 5,000 rpm’s all day and never die.

Carburetor engine with NO oil injection. Old school or old fashioned??

Current ad on Yamaha Thailand website……..
(That’s about 12,500 USD)

That is why new (now) it is a much different calculation, when you look at the added room etc that Velocity has gained by using OB, I get it. When I look at changing mine,,,, no. But when my buddy gets done with the trip Verado 35, that should be cool. He is doing all the glass work and a few years ago bought a bunch of motors so will be able to do it on the cheap. Advantage to having a marine bizz for 25 plus years.

At the Gratton run there was also a guy with OB's on a Sonic 35, man that thing has a lot of room.
