Default The Fountain video

I know everyone’s seen it ten times over but I happened to run across it again today and watched a few times. Still uncertain what happened. Guy looks like a complete nerd etc etc. What was more upsetting than anything was the fact he just sat on the floor likely a little stunned but had no auto reactions to secure and check everyone. That should be instant unless he was KO’d but clearly wasn’t. What a day to have a buddy install a dash cam. Damm

- boat didn’t appear to be over trimmed

- I didn’t see any big wake that was claimed to cause

- didn’t appear to be turning sharp but maybe a little

- should’ve drive through it rather than pulling out of it?

- step bottom have anything to do with it?

Wtf - remember when I first saw this years ago I assumed he hit a big boat wake and hooked a trim tab.

Lastly I’m surprised bald man hasn’t been on dr Phil from all the criticism and bs he got and deserved over all the years. Gotta be about number one fk up guy on the boating net plus.

Your observations are based on assumption, not necessarily how it happened.

There was terrible injuries on that accident. Everyone on board had some injuries, people in front took it the worst.
The Camera man in the back was doing a video of the trip for the local station (he too was injured)
LOTO water is extremely rough. Wakes are not like you get on the great lakes, more like a pissed off washing machine.
When he purchased the boat it was set up for speed for doing the Shootout, not necessarily for running the lake.

It is like the Domino effect; bad situation, bad action, bad decisions and bad outcome. Learn from others mistakes, and realize things happen VERY fast, who knows how you would handle it? Hopefully you never have to find out.

Agreed, the driver was pretty F'd up with broken bones, etc (I remember the 2 girls were his wife/daughter). I seem to recall soon after he came on OSO and posted about that day too.

I believe the boat launched off a wake came down on the hullside and bottom outside edge becoming the running surface (false keel). Spun.

Below is from another forum:

Hey guys, I was a passenger in this boat during the accident. Yes, there are many cardinal rules broken. The most important one I feel is no life jackets worn. As crazy as it seems, we had jackets for each person but as the poker run began we realized no one else was wearing them..... How foolish we were. I have read so many nasty comments on YouTube and other sites I am in shock. My wife suffered 4 broken ribs, punctured lung and a broken foot. She has not left the house since getting home. She is in severe pain. The driver crushed his eye orbital and broke hus back at T8 ( he is a former F-2 racer with APBA). Another passenger who raced professionally for many years broke his pelvis in several places and is in a wheelchair. One of the other girls crushed her eye orbital also. The guy from lake tv fractured his hip and broke his wrist. My injuries were minor compared, busted my head open and damaged a rib or two. Everyone is black and blue. This was a very upsetting event for everyone involved. I have been around powerboats for many years and it only takes on unguarded minute to loose a life or permanently hurt people you love. I am very thankful this did not end up worse. I hope everyone learns from this. I know I will boat differently. All of the guys in the boat are members of OSO. I think it is necessary to break down the accident and discuss this, just remember these are real people who like you who love power boating and do it every weekend

Yes that’s the one. An I’m not making any assumptions to be clear I’m just making observations from what I can see being filmed from the dash cam back. I’ve been in some pretty mixed up waters more than once over the last 35 plus years. I read the water the best I can and engage and disengage accordingly. Yes very unfortunate accident and goes back to my original question. Wish there was a GoPro aimed forward rather than just at family and friends standing up. So many different edited videos of this yet never really heard why or main cause.

I had something similar as that happen to me (no where near as violent though) and can attest that water is very unpredictable when its sloppy. A buddy and i were running like 45-50 in my old scarab out on lake MI on an overcast day that had waves in the 2-4' range. They were evenly spaced and we were having a blast. The boat would plow the first 2-3 waves then the timing was just right and it would go airborne. Well on one of these combos the boat suddenly hooked to the right instead of jumping and i went down tot he floor. I held onto the steering wheel and throttles and came right back up and killed it. The throttle levers were bent at a 45* angle and there were stress cracks around the base plate of the steering wheel. My buddy in the passenger seat said his body bent over the side of the boat like Gumby but sideways! The bolster was the only thing that kept him from going over. It was very humbling experience to say the least! Now having gone through that i get nervous when others are driving faster then 45mph...

I never knew that.
Anyone with a good memory or search skills aware what thread?
I'm sure there's 100 of them.

Sh*t happens. Sh*t happens fast at speed. Calling him a "douchebag" is a little harsh.

Dude owns a 42X cig with 1100's now. Still running around LOTO
