I used to have a State Farm agent that would insure anything.

He struggled with insuring my 24’ Sonic w/twin 250 hp OBs until I proved to him that boats over 20’ are not required to have max HP limits.

The next hurdle was answering his question about top speed.
This was 20 yrs ago and they had no clue to reality.

Was always nervous as to what would have happened w/a claim when it passed from the agent to corporate.

Yep. That was part of my concern with this latest go-around with insurance. What's the point in paying thousands for insurance that likely won't be very useful if the time comes where you need it?

They are a scam! But you must have it we took a gamble years back and lost! $6500 tow + $35000 in repairs out of pocket! Sad but true we got clubbed like seals

Exactly. They’d find one little thing on the boat not listed in the policy and it’d void the whole thing and they’d drop you like a hot potato. Don’t get me started on insurance companies, much less the big ones.... If there’s one industry that could really use gov’t regulation!

Those of us that use companies that specialize in go fasts pay more for sure but when their agents know the difference between and bravo XR and imco scx that makes me feel a lot better. Not “yea, here we can do a 2006 38ZR with 1x Mercury 525 for $1000yr”. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Don't mean to sidetrack Ubet, just remember that the fuel costs are the cheapest part of powerboating

lol no problem. I love reading everyone’s posts. This thread has been all over the place. And that’s perfectly fine with me. Hopefully it helps someone else in that’s maybe in the same situation.

The survey is going to be done Tuesday and once I have that I’m gonna have Markel quote the boat. Anyone have experience with them?

Glad to hear you got connected to a real marine insurer. Markel is who underwrites my WIA (Wagner insurance agency, out of loto area) policy. Haven’t had a claim, but easy to work with thus far.

Some things look better covered in mud and dirt! Good luck with your boat hunting.
