Default Blueprint marine 540 crate engines

Hey guys,

I have a 1996 Baja 252 with a a Bravo 1 drive and it is equipped with a 502 Mag MPI which I think is a little tired. I am debating freshen up the existing engine or a Blueprint 540 stroker but its a little much for the HP. It it a strictly fresh water boat but my question is can I keep my EMI thunder manifolds and captains call on a 670Hp engine?

I do not need 670Hp but the marine crate engine selection is minimal, I want a little more then the 415hp as well. or do I just build up my existing setup?

From a reliability, and cost perspective rebuild the 502 to stock and go. With the 540 you will either need to dump the efi and go carb setup, or have the computers reflashed along with possible injector and other upgrades beyond the cost of the actual engine,

I’d go the blueprint marine route. That seems like a lot bang for the buck. That would be a fun package in a 252. I’m not sure about the exhaust requirements. You might want to consider hydraulic steering and HP tabs w/ the new found speed.

I was thinking of going to a Holley ECU, setup and ditch the stock MPI setup, but I would have to see the cam spec for reversion issues as well.

You have a great platform for a rebuild. The GM 502 crank is good for 800hp. Get a set of good rods (Compstar, manley, etc) bore is .030 over and have a killer 509.

Id do as Saris suggested and buy this to put on it, the HP ecu alone is 1500 bucks, this is a good buy if its still available

If I go this route which I do think makes more sense what is a good compression ratio to shoot for? I know I'm staying N/A so I want to get above the stock 8.7:1 compression, I was thinking at least a 9.5-10.0 or somewhere in between. Aren't the stock rods a good forged piece as well?

They should be dimple rods which are good, I opened up a 502 mag mpi a few years back and found Manley H-beam rods

How are you killing the bottom end, killing timing down low? I kinda like the fuel injection but i want to keep my options open im not totally against a carb.
