Pontoon Ejection @ the Shootout
Just came across this.
If there was another malfunction then I’ll stand corrected.
Who doesn’t wear their lanyard while in a speed contest?
Now his boat is tore to hell also.

Glad everyone is okay. Very, very glad.
Im all for making things go fast, sometimes faster than they should. But I'm real tired of the overpowered water mini van bit. None of them are designed with high speed handling in mind. None. Even the "performance" pontoons. Ive blown drives in plenty of twin engine hulls at well over 100mph...never had any of them hook like that. That boat was wayward and running poorly from the start. Bowsteer waiting to happen. Imagine if someone was killed and the shootout ended because of a pontoon? Really?
IF you're hellbent on overpowering a pontoon boat. Hydraulic steering with a helm mounted to something other than a plastic dashboard, a real bolster to hold you in(better yet, some actual boat around it) and a proper setup should be MANDATORY. Get the boat to handle right before dumping power in it. You sit "on" these boats not "in" them. It's an accident looking for a place to happen....and Im afraid this wont be the last.
Want a fast party barge? Get a CC or MCOB.

As far as I'm aware they never did say if it was a malfunction of the kill switch or a malfunction of the toon operator. It would also be interesting to know what caused the hard left resulting in an exit stage right.

Toons run pretty nose high at speed trimmed out. If he lost power and it nosedived it could bow steer hard one direction or the other. That would explain how he got tossed. Haven't seen any video of the run, just the couple of pics on Lake Expo showing the front of the toons pretty deep in the water as he is exiting stage right.

Yes, it has twins. Sudden loss of power on one side and may have even stalled that engine. I had a blower belt come apart on my Pantera and it basically flooded the engine with fuel and stalled it quickly. I heard the same report about the lanyard strap breaking. My guess is his lanyard caught on something as he was ejected.

Watched the video. How did they stop the boat? Did they flood the engine with that fire hose?(hydro lock) or did it hit the throttle controll and push it back?
