any less expensive wet slip in florida?
Hey guys !
Toying with the idea of buying a cruiser in florida, so i can have a ''place to stay'' as well as a boat at the same time, so looking (can't believe it) for a flying bridge 35 ish footer. Cost of wet slips seems to be... way much more expensive than in my neck of the wood! here, i can get a slip for 2500-3000$ for 6 months. So my guess was 6000 for 12 months right? I just begun hunting for info in 3-4 places and can't seem to find anything less than 1000$ ish minimum per month, not to mention other at 1800-2200$ per month! Maybe I am not wealthy enough to have a boat in florida... can't believe all those boaters all spend those crazy amount, and i calculated on 35 foot, so those having 45's and bigger... wow ! So, Am I simply not looking at the right marinas? or too poor ? |
That is why I keep our Sea Ray behind our house.
|
People are buying homes in South Florida just to park their boats/yachts bc of marina prices and availability.

With the closest lake being damn near 2 hours away it would probably pay itself off over a summer. $1000 a month is a chunk of change to me, but I’m also not the guy on the 600k boat either. Just curious, what part of Florida you looking? |
Try a “blue” state, should be some vacancies, as they seem to all be here.

Just as a comparison for the season it's $145-$155 per foot + $400 for shore power for the season. |

https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...county-fl.html A place was recommended in this thread (new owners/improvements) but that area is rough (and it has been for 30-40 years when I lived just north of that area). Look at street view of that neighborhood for an idea. |
Try Brevard county
|
You will be at or over $2000 month from Stuart to West Palm, South of West Palm $2000 month minimum. And its almost season, so after October you wont be able to find anything.
Loggerhead in Lantana has availability on and off - for 35 feet it will be $2000 mo or more. Lake Park Marina usually has something open and they are always the cheapest. But thats still going to be $2000 mo You can try al the city marinas like Riviera but Im sure its full... Theres a waiting list in Delray for 5 years. |

My buddies pay right around a $1000 a month on a annual for a 40 footer plus electric at salty sams just over the bridge from fort myers beach.
problem is their not taking any more annuals in. In fact the writing is on the wall that the marina is right around the corner from demo and condos. Waterfront public docking will soon be a thing of the past in south Florida. My brother lives on the hook on his trawler in Bimini basin and works in the cape. Some scumbag lowlifes bought some pile of chit that recently sunk and now they will end up kicking everyone out. Many of the dirt ball liveaboards are just homeless people with boats and 2 dogs they can’t afford. |

NOn existent Wi-Fi even though it is said it’s included so another 100 bucks. 2 halfway clean showers between 50 boaters along with a couple wash machines. 125 a month for a diver to clean the bottom and replace the zincs. This is a must or you’ll pay later. 4-5 years between bottom jobs $2-3000 if you do it yourself $5-6000 for the yard for 2 coats. survey every 3 -4 years for insurance $20 a foot but probably more these days . Neverending crap to be fixed on a boat sitting in saltwater plus interior systems , water pumps, heaters , holding tanks vacu flushes ,ac units you name it. Not cheap living on a boat and keeping it up. |

There are some slips in Punta Gorda, but there is a 2-3 year wait list. Also some moorings.
Nothing is cheap on the West coast of Florida. |

Mooring buoys at fort myers beach are 350 a month with zero parking facilities. |

Mooring buoys at fort myers beach are 350 a month with zero parking facilities. 3 bars and restaurants and a pool. My buddy had his boat up there for year and I thought the location was fantastic. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bb95210c0.jpeg |

The basin in front of Bayfront Park in Sarasota. The city made it an official mooring (fee) a few years ago. Most were nice sailboats who stayed put but the rift raft moved outside the mooring field and created a floating trailer park clogging up that part bay.

I’ve been a yachting guy for 35 years down in Florida and I am all about anchor rights but than we get the tent city scum that ruin it for everyone. Biggest worry during any little blow is the unattended junk boats breaking free or dragging down on you to your death. |

The other issue with the floating trailer parks is the "lack of pump outs" issue. Peanut Island has a bunch of vagabond boats and some beautiful blue water yet for some odd reason the water tests routinely cause the swimming areas to get shut down. The bum boaters are crapping in buckets, then rinsing the buckets in the water which contaminates the area. Seems like when one boat sinks/gets removed, another 2 appear in that spot! |

Just last weekend we were joking that this is the result of 5 years without any hurricanes, Cause the first one that comes, 95% of these will be gone. |
I'm operations manager at a large marina on Bradenton Beach. We discontinued live aboard several years ago. Customers would dump sh!t tanks at night, instead of using free pump out...
|
We're at $25-$27/ft for annual wet slips.5-10 minutes to gulf.
