So this has been mentioned in some threads about people having a second boat. I am considering making a purchase as my nordic project is taking forever and I miss being on the water. I'm looking at an 05 23' Sea Ray bowrider. I will never be out of the performance boat world to get that out there just looking for something to get me on the water and something I don't have to be as anal about and something I can take more than one other couple out with us. Could grab this thing after work and take off for the water and not worry about anything else.
Obviously my "big boat" is nothing like a lot of you guys have but a bigger newer performance boat is just not in the budget at the moment. Am I crazy for thinking this is an awesome idea?? Once done, I can keep the nordic for weekend blasts, poker runs, and performance oriented fun runs and use the Sea Ray for sunset cruises and raft ups and not care if it gets a beer spilled in it or a scratch in the rub rail....just seems like worry free fun boating and I think it will light a fire under my a$$ to get the nordic project finished. Thoughts? |
Yes, I am addicted as well. I justify it by categorizing them, I have the Cigarette for fun blasts in rough water, the Ranger for fishing, and the Polarcraft for duck hunting. At least that is what I've convinced myself. It is nice having options, as others have said make sure whatever you get for a second is dependable with low maintenance to relieve stress.

Second? He!! I'd like A boat again. Wife wanted out after 25 years of boat ownership so the new owners drove it away in July. Out of a boat and LOTO. Beyond bummed.

I'm glutten for punishment, I have 4 boats currently. My 10M fountain, a 34' houseboat, a 27' fountain center console that I'm redoing, and a 20' center console (my beat around boat). We use the houseboat 5-7 times a year to stay on the water all weekend and my little center console is probably the most used since its the easiest to drop in and go. For what I like to do I don't think 1 boat would cover it all.

We have 2 completely useless raceboats that are fantastic for hauling ass (or racing) with 1 or 2 people. Zero storage, all of the wind noise, etc. But man its a rush.
The Avanti on the other hand is slow, squishy and comfortable. It by far gets used the most. |

I’ve found a second boat makes the powerboat more fun again. Using a 38ZR or any other bigger powerboat as a “daily” gets old. So much more work getting her ready and stress. The ZR is used more now as a special day/events boat now and is more exciting that way. The spark has returned. Of course a side piece will take time away from the main piece, but again a powerboat shouldn’t really be used as a daily, just too much wear and tear.
My boating style has NOT changed at all and nothing will ever pull me away from obnoxious fuel burning screaming big blocks but as has been said in several posts....that and the stress of that can get old using it as a daily driven boat. Thanks for all of the replies!! Sealed the deal for me just have to make the deal and go from there...will report back when and if it goes through!! |
