Now, I know what everyone is thinking....... “how fast is it?”

On top of the motor work I also had to rebuild and reinstall the transom housing and bracket as well as all the other odds and ends that that leads to. And as most of you know, a new motor requires prop work and more importantly an exhaust. So I had a lot of money wrapped into this build and I didn't want to drop 6k on a CMI exhaust if I had goofed something up assembling the motor, or the transom assembly leaked! I my plan was to get it running first as it was always plenty fast as our family boat, and tune it next season. The prop is out at BBlades now and CMI is a 4-6 month wait for the headers! So presently I am running the stock exhaust dried out to the transom to prevent reversion. (Special thanks to Ryan00TJ for the help on that one) With the stock exhaust with turbulators removed, I am limited to approximately 525HP, so a whole lot of gain is not to be expected yet.

The VR1 prior to this work did 71 at best with me as a novice driver and a thinned out 28 Bravo prop to get me to 5100rpm. Velocity reps promise its a mid 70s boat but i don’t think I can keep it on the pad smooth enough to not scrub speed. I can tell you the boat is no slower now, and with a stock 28 Bravo it runs about the same speeds as the stock motor (with the labbed 28) but at about 500 less rpm. I will keep you posted when I can talk the boss into the CMIs.

Very nice build and write up!! Really appreciate taking the time to post it all....it's easy to get hung up on all the blower motor huge power stuff and forget what actually goes into building a "normal" engine. Very nice work and hoping you get some more speed and more importantly reliable times out of her!

Great build ! Thank you for sharing. Headers look nice , work great , but imco and stainless Gen 3 won’t crack . I believe stainless marine offers a 5 year warranty..

Awesome build. Looking forward to the end results.

I emailed Larry once wanting to know the recommended service interval was on his 525HO kit as I was looking at a boat that had them installed.

His response was something like "buy my book. The answer is in there".

He could have typed less and answered my question. Totally turned off from ever buying anything from him by that.
