Dry Sump Drive # 6 question what fluid are you using ?? been using Torco MTF for years and the local High Perf speed shop is no longer a torco dealer ..thanks

I've only used Mercury Racing Gear Lube.

From memory roughly $40 a quart, x 2 gallons = $320 twice a season. Small price to pay for having fun :drink:

Dry sump sixes do not use Merc racing lube 80w90W.. It also does not use 2 gal, I assume that is for an older wet sump 6. The Torco MTF can be bought online.

85w90 gear lube. Which is what is currently called for. Of which some “stealers” are charging $53.80 per quart. Time to find an alternate that is reasonably priced because
no way is a quart of gear lube worth that price. Just as a Mercury Racing oil filter is just a Wix 51222R filter without being branded a Mercury part, a quart of 85w90 gear lube is made by someone else. Just my line in the sand. And it’s more than just 8 quarts when you factor in Nxt transmissions, and bearing carriers.

Different drives, imco scx-4s, and different lube but I noticed a change in color around 2021 in the Torco RTF, from a deep blue to a green color. Shortly after I lost both drives. Rebuild and still running Torco RTF because that’s what imco swore by, but then they had started making their own lube… This past season noticed drives weren’t shifting good. Pulled drives and found black tarry substance on every surface! Long story short, no longer using junk Torco! Amsoil severe gear.

I`ve tried alot of gear lubes but I always come back to Amsoil severe gear. Seems to hold up best with the least amount of fuzz on the magnets.
Personally I wouldn`t mess up any oil composition with what looks like the new version of Slick50.

Schaffer gear oil..Talked to a few local guys that run those drives, they run the stuff, drain it, inspect it and sometimes put it right back in!

Are you guys talking about Number 6 dry sump drives? You are using gear lube in a dry sump 6? Torco MTF is like water and gear lube is like molasses. I believe Torco MTF is what Mercury recommends. Do what you want. Blowing an expensive drive is a shame. There is a small filter in the nose of the drive. I am not sure gear lube would even go through the filter. I suggest you talk to dealer who actually knows. TNT or Performance Boat Center for example.

Mine are 5 gallons each and wet .. I thought dry 6`s used trans oil.
