This should be an interesting thread 😉
I second the 34 Tuff. I think they were into the high 120’s w/a 1150 and are expecting more more when they switch it to 1350! It looks like a small lake boat though. More of a 34’ Allison Vs a traditional, offshore boat. If you want a killer lake boat though…., it would be a true cat killer! I think it went one teens w/twin OBs too. Dont forget the Velocitiy’s either. I think the twin OB is a 32’….., and went 109 w/twin 450R’s. |

I'm bias but a 30/33' Sutphen (if you can find one) is a beast with big power. Haven't had seat time in a Superboat, but the 30' Y2Ks have always had a special place in my heart (Shout out to Team RUFSTR).
I really like the Sutphen idea but as you said very hard to find. The 32 speed skiff is 100+ but limited to lake or bay with its limited freeboard. I don’t think any of these boats mentioned in this thread are real threats to similar size outboard cats though. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2ac009499.jpeg |
What’s your budget??
|
Well since you said a lake that has a size limit I assume rough water capability doesn’t matter.
A 35 staggered fountain if you want a I/O or if you want newer the 29 Velocity with twin 400 or 450 will run over a 100. like many have said the tuff also in I/O or OB. |
Power to power, probably not.
My comment was more toward the numerous 95 - 105 mph IOs I see around. I have two buddies in Fla, one w/a 32’ Skater and one w/a 34’ Wright, and both are knocking on 140’s door! I think w/450’s.

Do you want a big boat, small boat, or something in the middle?
Examples Tuff: fast but tiny cigarette: middle sized Donzi 33 ZX daytona: huge for the length, Kevlar bottom, takes power well and has a usable cabin those 3 couldn't be anymore different. If you narrow us down to how you use the boat besides going fast it might help |

If it were me, I'd try putting "Hustler 344 Cheetah" graphics all over the 388, and just wait to be challenged. Have a custom cover made that says "Hustler 344" down the side of it in GIANT OBNOXIOUS graphics. The Hustler 388 is really only a 36' boat to begin with as the swim platform is added into the length. I lived in an HOA that barred any pickups over 1/2 ton. I bought a 2500 Duramax and stuck 1500 door logos on it. Never heard a peep from the HOA! Atleast once a month at a gas station someone would say they didn't know they made a 1500 diesel........so I'd either tell the story or tell the guy yeah they are special order. I traded the truck at a Ford dealer and a diesel tech bought it but even he didn't believe it was a diesel until he popped the hood. Last time I saw the truck it still had the 1500 logos. |
I had to go under 30' got a 29' Fountain 2 x big blocks mid west ! We have limit 30' but have seen bigger on lifts dumb rule huge canal? I did figure it out selective enforcement by condo board:hitfan:? Good luck don't rule out 29' Fountain fast and low price!

The lake I live on is pretty big and gets chopped up on the weekends. I would say 2’-3’ on average and on a bad day you could see 3’-5’. As far as boat size I don’t want a small boat . I want something I can take to poker runs and still have enough boat to run if the conditions aren’t great . I was considering a 344 Cheetah since I like my 388 so much . But they have the same issue as my 388 above 90mph they get loose . I have my 388 where it runs good over 90 mph but it’s still not on rails . If I have to down size I would like to get something that can run in the 110-120 range and not fight me the whole time .
