Be vigilant
All of my Florida friends. God bless and keep safe. Weather wars suck
|
God bless everyone....
If people with boats wind up evacuating this far West in Louisiana the storage place I have a unit in has a good number of big units empty and place is only a year old. Mary is the ladies name. https://www.climasecur.com/101-swaco...ssard-la-70518 There are a good number of places to stay as well. Airbnb and a good number of hotels in Lafayette. I pray for everyone evacuating and all that have been decimated already , where are they all going to go? Can't really go North due to the destruction in the other states North. Have to come West /Northwest is my thinking.. |
Took the beater world cat off the lift Sunday and hauled inland. One last look at normal Sarasota waterfront!

I’m at that black scratch mark just above the hospital.😳
Main floor is up 11’ and have upstairs, was going to stay but not if it comes in this hot. We got 6’ of water from Helene but I think anything over 10 would put water in the house. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cdc3ea4bc.jpeg |
I just checked my main floor elevation with the laser. Dead on 11’ from current mid tide. I think we have a 2.4’ high tide right after midnight tomorrow night.
So I’ll net about 8.5’. South eye wall is forecast to be 10-15 so just have to see where it lands and how far inshore it holds up. But it’s a straight shot from Big Pass to this inlet. |

Hi,
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the folks in Milton's path. Be safe.... |
Its crazy we are probably less than a hundred miles from it now sitting on the beach and it's not even raining here. Thoughts and prayers for those in the path.

Man, first time I have "skin in the game" for a Florida hurricane. Last week and did a "bucket list" trip and ran my 400ss 1,000 miles from VA to FL (Stuart). It's docked behind a buddies house in the canals. When I left they were calling for a potential Cat 2.....I get home and a few days later it's a Cat 5 :(. Can't believe I just left my boat down there! Secured it the best I could and wish everyone who lives in the path the best!!!!!
|
Hope it isn't as bad as what is being said.
Stay safe !! |

That straight shots not good Salty Sams marina a mile across the bay from Fort Myers beach had a water mark at 13’ for Ian. Your evacuating?

Yea my buddy just bought a ground floor condo here in fort Myers that was totally redone after getting 6 inches from rain during Ian. He got it cheap because it was unsellable because of getting flood insurance . He bought it cash but and thought it was a once in a blue moon flooding.
The ground here is absolutely saturated so be spray foamed his patio doors up to window level And trash bags and sandbags. Just walked behind our condo that has a pond and the water is 4 inches from flooding the ac units and the ground is like a sponge it’s so saturated. Early am tomorrow I willrun out to Arcadia and see if I can secure my semi trailer and than stop by the boat in Moore Haven and grab the window shaker and toaster oven and generator and gas grille. My brother is anchored up in the river with his trawler along with many other boats that ran from fort myers and cape coral to get above the set of locks away from the surge. a/c has the condo at 68 as I’ve slowly y pulled it down the last couple days. |
I have been thru a couple of hurricanes when I lived in Fla but none as strong as this one. personally if you are in the path of it there is nothing you own worth dying for. Homestead was pretty far inland when Andrew came thru and I remember going thru there a week or so after and whole subdivisions were nothing but foundations. if this thing stays at a cat 5 all it takes is one little opening and it will tear out the backside of a house. I hope it dies down but if not dont stay to try and ride it out, it rarely works out.

Florida People be save out there!

As long as Jim Cantore isn't standing on that dock your boat will be fine! :D |

Some friends have left Lakewood Ranch to stay with family in Naples so we have their condo. Leaving sometime tomorrow, not far and can take back roads so no i75 bs. For what’s it worth I sealed all my doors shut up to window level with 3M 4200 lol. I’ll have to use carpet knives to get back in.
Good luck and hopefully your trick works well! |
Whole house has teak floors so I don’t care much about the doors. The biggest screw up we did was using impact glass in the main floor but not upstairs. I have two windows in particular upstairs I think are vulnerable.

A closed Waffle House is also a really bad sign lol. |
The tornadoes have begun
|
This is 15 foot of surge hitting Fort Myers beach 2 years ago during Ian. That’s the Lani Kia in the background. https://www.facebook.com/groups/5365...40aB7S9Ucbxw6v

Same boat as mine anchored up in the marina in St Pete. The other boats or a whole dock of boats will take him out most likely.

Windfinder is currently showing the West Florida Central Buoy (about 50 miles west of Tampa) of having winds of 70mph and waves of up to 20'.

Just saw a report that included a Waffle House in Bradenton stayed open until 1pm today.
|
This looks worst for Charlotte Harbor? Glad to see the wind speeds are down a lot.

Is it some what falling apart just doesn't seem as defined...... less wind speed less surge
|
Just seen some video of a tornado that hit Ft Myers, tore some places up pretty good.

We just had a tornado go by within a couple miles.
A buddy in cocoa beach watched it go over them, came in from the Atlantic. |
Tornados will be the main story will this one.
we walked out into the eyewall here as it came through. Maybe 70-80 mph gusts. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a26af9939d.png https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b334e5980.jpeg |
Is this being over hyped by Accuweather like so many times
|
Have to make sure everything's thinks it's the worst ever. So they can say the worst hurricane season ever.
|
Desantis
From my vantage point Desantis press updates seem to be commanding, if I were a Floridian like I used to be, reassuring that the State of Florida is ready. He stressed that He is the Sheriff and discounted FEMA. Well played Governor.
Stay Strong Floridians. You are a tough bunch of Gators |
Where's the 15- 20 foot storm surge as reported by accuweather for days now, hope all are safe
