Everyone ok ??

Hoodoo 2.0 10-10-2024 06:56 AM

Just got back home. Surge was 6 inches more than Helene. Most likely worse down from Venice south.
Lot of Sarasota didn’t lose power. But I did. Overall messy but no damage around here.

Wildman_grafix 10-10-2024 07:39 AM

All good here boat jack didn’t make it. Never lost power or internet we still have winds here.

Friend up river from Ft Myers had about 15” of water in his house.

Decent wind gusts on east coast but honestly I don't think I got an inch of rain.

Tornados west and north of me definitely ruined people's lives.

Stuart/Port Salerno had 3 tornadoes I know of. 2 of them were under 4 miles of my boat. Another was just over a mile away.

Boat never lost power, I'm watching it on cams. Small section of canvas flapping but otherwise seems unhurt (unless it got some dock-rash I cannot see).

Jupiter,

As much as we hash it out in the other thread, I don't disagree with this. But we play the hand we're dealt; not the one we wish we were.

Thanks. Brad.

Alls well here Lost power about 6:30 than shorty after that phone service, still without power and just got back phone service now. Boat survived well at the yard and after I saw the Tornadoes out in Arcadia I gave up on my Conestoga semi trailer.

First text I received was trailer was undamaged. Hope fully power comes on soon it’s still 75 in here and it’s going to cool down to 78 outside tonight. I have an inverter and a big fan running off one of my 275 amp batteries off the boat.

I froze 8 1 gallon milk jugs of fresh water over the week so freezer is cold and I can put a couple in the frig to keep it cool for now.

So glad it went down to a cat 3. The tornadoes had me a little freaked out though.

How about this guy:

Coast Guard rescues man off Longboat Key following Hurricane Milton

Joint Information Center: 786-373-6675, [email protected]

Editor's note: Coast Guard b-roll and photos for Hurricane Milton can be found on Dvidshub.net

MIAMI - A Coast Guard Air Station Miami helicopter crew rescued a man, Thursday, approximately 30 miles off Longboat Key following Hurricane Milton.

The aircrew brought the man to Tampa General Hospital for further care, after he was found clinging to a cooler wearing a life jacket at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Airplane and helicopter crews from Air Station Clearwater currently deployed to Aviation Training Center Mobile for storm avoidance, and Air Station Miami launched at approximately 5:30 a.m. to search for the missing captain.

Monday, the captain of the fishing vessel Capt. Dave reported to Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders, at approximately 12:40 p.m., he and a crew member were disabled approximately 20 miles off John's Pass.

A Coast Guard Station Sand Key rescue boat crew and a Air Station Clearwater rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene. The aircrew hoisted the two people and brought them back to Air Station Clearwater in good condition. The vessel was left adrift and salvage arrangements were to be made.

Wednesday, around noon, the owner of the fishing vessel Capt. Dave reported to Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders, the captain back went out to the boat to make repairs at approximately 3 a.m. and hadn't checked in. Watchstanders were able to make radio contact with the captain who reported the rudder was fouled with a line and became disabled during his transit back to port.

The weather at the time was 6-8 foot seas, and approximately 30 mph winds but quickly deteriorating as the storm approached. The captain was instructed by the Coast Guard to don a life jacket and stay with the vessel's emergency position indicating radio beacon. Watchstanders lost communications at approximately 6:45 p.m, Wednesday evening.

“This man survived in a nightmare scenario for even the most experienced mariner," said Lt. Cmdr. Dana Grady, Sector St. Petersburg's command center chief. "To understand the severity of the hurricane conditions, we estimate he experienced approximately 75-90 mph winds, 20-25 foot seas, for an extended period of time to include overnight. He survived because of a life jacket, his emergency position indicating locator beacon, and a cooler."

A buddy of mine had about 3' of water in the house from Helene. I have not talked to him, but supposedly water was up to the soffits this time. What a mess.

Rotonda West - still no power and intermittent cellular service (Verizon). But my neighbors and I are in decent shape with minimal to no damage due high wind speed and we did not experience flooding in my area.

I am very grateful.

And still no electrical power as on 10/11/2024 @ 11:36 AM but I am optimistic that power will be restored soon.

Power back on here yesterday before dinner. Walgreens opened yesterday mid morning despite two of the streets leading to it were only clear enough for foot traffic.
👍

to be not as bad as they predicted !

Power on at 12:30 PM or so today, I feel very fortunate.

Lost power again after it coming back on last night. It’s been on and off all day but it’s been 3 hours now. Thankfully it is cool tonight

Think of it from the positive side: palm removal normally costs a fortune, and it fell without damaging the building.

I'd rather pay a couple hundred bucks to remove a tree than scoop wet sand out of the building for hours.

Hows gas down there? We have nearly full tanks but are reluctant to burn much. Every station here is either out or insane line. I have diesel at my shop but don’t normally keep gas.

That’s why there are sand bags in front of the building.

No gas yesterday in Englewood, but gas stations were open in nearby Port Charlotte, all were very busy.

You have to wonder with some of the damage if they will even rebuild on some of these barrier islands.

Maybe they shouldn’t but they will. Just like theres always someone with a faster boat, there’s probably always a hurricane that can beat the building code.

Yea some of those barrier islands are nothing but a sandbar now that you see them from the air and not much for vegetation like mangroves to hold them together.

There is 50-70 feet of beach missing up in Bonita after all these storms and if you get a strong cold front out of the North over winter you can lose another 20 in a day .

Have to build on concrete pylons driven 40 feet down but than what , you own a stilt home out in the bay.

The Dome homes out beyond Goodland in the Gulf now long gone. We used to go crawl around on them back in the early 2000s. Granted they were built on a sandbar surrounded by land with mangroves.
