Default New ‘Qatar’ Mystic Owner Sets Sights On Breaking Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout Record

Not seen on the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout course since its 244-mph run in 2014, https://www.speedonthewater.com/new-...ootout-record/

Wow, this year's shootout is going to be EPIC with the Qatar boat back, American Ethanol firing on all 32 cylinders and the Freedom One and Dirty Duck Skaters also looking to be strong. I love it, turbine twin vs turbo piston quad vs turbo piston twin vs supercharged piston twin. I could retire well on the money being spent to be Top Gun this year.

Wasn’t the record in the Qatar boat done when the corse was longer? Can it be beat on a shorter course? Those things spool
up quick enough?

I heard that boat had been sitting basically since beating the record. It’ll be nice to see that bad boy hit the course again.

I always told John he should make shirts:

“Mystic…our day starts at 244MPH…the day is young!!” 😁👍

chase that record baby!!!

You're correct Tank, the 244 they ran was on the 1-mile course, but it always seemed like there was a lot left in that setup. Gas turbines develop full torque from the beginning of their rpm band, much like an electric motor, so there will be no worries about spooling up from the 45mph start. You're correct that there is a "spool-up" lag when throttle is applied from idle on gas turbines, but this won't be in play from the flying 45mph start. The advantages are all in the gas turbines favor in comparison to the piston engine boats, not to mention that it's no secret John's Mystics are the kings of the over 200mph realm. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Qatar rig run 250+ on the 3/4-mile course this year. I just hope all the competitors stay safe, because accidents at the speeds the top guys are running are not survivable. I personally think it would be good for the event to shorten the course again (down to 1/2 mile) since the top competitors are already back to speeds the event was seeing when they shortened the course from 1 mile. I also think the event would be way more exciting if they paired the boats up, just as they do in actual drag racing - but that's a topic that we could start an entirely new thread on..........

good info dale. That’s interesting for sure.

I’ve always said cosker builds his big cats specifically to go over 200. Only manufacturer that does that. But you’re right. No one surviving a Catastrophic flip / roll at 250mph.

shaping up to be a kick ass event.

I think it will be hard to match the 244mph record in a 1320ft less distance.

I don't think that record will be broken.

Those things have always amazed me, been watching the videos for 20 years. Didn't know they are also shortened to 1000 feet now.
