Default Wesco Racing Appreciation

I dropped the boat off at Wesco Racing this week to check out the power in the Powerquest 340 Vyper. It runs normal in all ranges except WOT. It's down around 500 RPM at WOT. It planes normally, runs normal in midrange just can't spin the motors as fast as last year. I brought it to Dave at Wesco to make sure something isn't broken. Compression test was fine, plugs looked good so I'm assuming valve springs and or top ends need to be freshened. The motors have just shy of 300 hours. They are NA 588s. I'm going to try and run the boat as is until the Fall and freshen up the valvetrains. I really appreciate Wesco getting

you in and getting you back on the water ASAP. They fixed a broken timing chain for me in July in a few years back within a week. I also enjoy seeing some of the big power hardware always in his shop. Big shot out to Dave at Wesco Racing!

500 rpm’s is huge. You Michiganders don’t take your winter hibernation lightly, have you scaled lately 🤪

Just my own fat ass. I'm up about 10lbs from last year. Are the 340s known to trap water somewhere? It's a 2002 twin step. It will still do 90mph at 5300. Last Spring it would pull 98mph at 5800.

Seems odd both mills would be down same RPM at the same time after a winter's nap. Wonder if timing is getting pulled for some reason?

Dave said the same thing. He’s putting the new plugs in and will fire the engines and check the timing next.
