Why can't you just put some tape over the vent ?. I don't see an issue with that unless your tank is filled to the top of the hose and needs to expand and contract. JMO

I’ve been doing the same thing seafordguy does for the last 35 yrs. I fill up close to the end of the season, use it a few more times, usually leaves me with around half tank. Put stabilizer in it, store it for the winter and top off beginning of summer with fresh fuel.

I always drain the tank(s) before winter storage. No sense letting perfectly good gas sit when I can use it in cars, toys, and power equipment. One spring, just for grins, I tried pumping the dry tanks again to see if any significant condensation gathered. None, bone dry.
Fresh fuel in the spring. Never had a problem in 25 years. |

Condensation
If there is enough condensation for it to matter, you will be able to pump the water out before filling with fresh fuel in the summer.
