I’ve been doing the same thing seafordguy does for the last 35 yrs. I fill up close to the end of the season, use it a few more times, usually leaves me with around half tank. Put stabilizer in it, store it for the winter and top off beginning of summer with fresh fuel.

I always drain the tank(s) before winter storage. No sense letting perfectly good gas sit when I can use it in cars, toys, and power equipment. One spring, just for grins, I tried pumping the dry tanks again to see if any significant condensation gathered. None, bone dry.
Fresh fuel in the spring. Never had a problem in 25 years.

I fill 91 octane non ethanol
Add fuel stabilizer
I have to open it up maybe
During winter as my fuel guage stopped working right aftet i filled it up
hoping just a wire came loose
Have not been mobile enough to chase it

just to understand, Gas was drained because it was old not because it was drained just for storage. I even considered polishing the old fuel, but for $750 to do so, I drained it into 50 gal. tank.
