I have been running 38 and 39 pitch wheels and the acceleration is still impressive (we were at 139 and on our set limiter a full 12 seconds before the finish line at this years shootout). With the upgraded internals and head work we should be able to run 35s, 1.60, 8,000, 5% slip=157 This stuff has become very real.

I think Dirty Harry said it best- "A mans got to know his limitations". problem for most all of us is that our actual limitations are usually far lower than our perceived limitations.

I am not going to call myself an expert but I have raced outboard cats in offshore, I have owned 15+ outboard cats ranging from 19ft to 42ft, and I currently have 6 of them. That being said, I have the MoTec and Kong add-ons on my 36 Wright Performance. The boat will run 140 at will and the acceleration is absolutely impressive for an outboard. The best comparison I can offer is like driving a 24 Skater with 280s but on steroids- "if you don't have your s*** together, it will bite you". I see all of the liquid courage that is consumed on the fun runs, poker runs, and at various spots on the lake. At this point, it is totally our opportunity to ruin. I truly pray that guys use their heads and wear lifelines in these lightweight boats that are going to be capable of 150 to 160 mph-believe me, (we are there with built up internals and increased RPM capability). This a double edged knife and it is night and day compared to stock 500s so please use your head and have a plan before you attempt to just lay the sticks on the dash. All of this stuff is only fun if you can continue to do it again.
Joe Can you (or anyone else) give me feedback on a 1989A 32' Skater, Carbon boat. Ride , handling .. twin 400R`s |

No power level and no boat is safe if you are drunk. Seems like we are tiptoeing around that in this one.
36s and 650hp with a pretty basic pump gas tune makes stock 500s on 34s feel like a pickup truck on acceleration. 700+ was impressive. |

I had one with twin 300X power (boat ran 99 best-never tripped the 100 mark). They are fun boats but nothing like todays wider tunnels for stability. Give me a call and I can discuss some things if you want, we've had lots of Skaters.

32As ran sooooo much better with triples or quads back in the day. Paul Whittier's "Quattro" 32A w/ quad 2.5/280s accelerated like crazy and ran well into the 130s and my 32A w/ triple 300Xs accelerates very well and runs 125. I gap my buddies with their 450 and 500 cats whenever we leave the 5 zones. :D

I 100% agree-should have put a 3rd X on mine but I only had for a few months. I had a 24 Skater with triple 280s, and a 30 Spectre with triple 280s. They were both fast for 1.87 and 32 3 blades. Back then it was all we had, take one today and put 1.62s and some good 5 blades they would be really fast. I think my new boat is going to have a chance of surprising some people when its done.
