Lukes - Best of luck with the prop swap. Hope that works for you. As Padraig advised, are you able to trim up enough? Where are you on the trim gauge? If you can't over trim to the where your prop starts slipping (more RPM with no more speed) a bad trim limit switch may be restricting your optimal trim/top end. Do verify the tach as your motor's top RPM should be in the 4,600 range if proped correctly.

It varies with the boat model. Generally the smaller boats rise up faster than the larger, heavier boats so my experience is anywhere between 45+ MPH to 65+ MPH depending on boat size.

Wasn’t able to get the other 23p on yet for a trial. I went out yesterday with a 26p chopper prop that I had on one of my other boats just for ****s and giggles I figured maybe if I got up and moving it might get me a little more bow lift but of course I spun the hub getting up on plane so after a quick tow back to the marina from a friend I threw the the original mirage back on I was able to see 55 for a moment but I think it was because it was choppy which seemed to be allowing me to skim the top of the waves getting the hull more out of the water then previously although I noticed when the boat would take a good smack it would cut off quickly and give power right back so I’m probably going to have to check the plug on the motor harness as well. I know a few of you mentioned the trim gauge and limiter. the gauge isn’t working at the moment and I don’t think the limiter is ether it basically lets you trim to the
moon. when trying to reach top speed I have it right at the point where it’s as high as you can go without jumping up on rpm and starting to lose speed. Still going to try to get the other 23 mirage out for a test though.

@ Lukes; Are you sure everything is OK with the engine?
What gear ratio are you using in the drive? Your engine doesn’t have a lot of torque, and if the ratio is below 1.5, that could be the reason.
The difference between the achieved and expected speed is too large to be solved just by choosing a propeller. I think something might be wrong in the drivetrain leading to the propeller.
What if the structure is full of water and much heavier than it should be?

You gained 5mph from water conditions ? Not totally unheard of , but that’s a lot…especially for a smaller / lighter boat with a relatively fast bottom. Did you have less fuel on board too ? Maybe your driving style is getting a little better ?

The motor seems to be fairly healthy it runs good. It appears to be the original engine and I’m not sure if it’s been rebuilt or not. The hr meeter says 395 right now but who knows if that’s actually accurate. The analog tach on the boat is reading around 4500-5000 when going wot and trimmed at the point where I’m hitting the highest speed without gaining rpm and losing speed although I still have to verify with a external digital gauge. Not sure on drive ratio I tried to get the part number off of it but I couldn’t make out most of the numbers. The hull seems to be pretty dry from what I’ve seen and feels close in weight to a 21 scarab that I’ve towed as well although that is pretty subjective. Maybe it would be worth throwing it on a scale to verify the weight.
