Mike, I grew up on a river. In the spring we would take our row boat with a 10hp engine and take it up the river. We would then find a big piece of ice and break it free from the shore. We could pull the boat on it with 5 guys and ride down the river. We would hit docks and tear out pilings as this iceberg crashed down the river. In the end the ice would hit the solid ice and begin to go under so we would climb into the boat and find another one. One time we pulled the boat up and went to a friends house. We looked out later and saw the Firemen on the ice looking for us thinking we were gone. That part was not too funny but the crashing into docks was. Our fun was to run across the ice and have it break behind us. I have fallen thru many times and was smart enough to not let myself go under the ice (obviously) scared my parents to death

I live next to Chautauqua Lake in Western NY and don't see much problems with kids. Its the adult snowmobilers and adult fisherman. Last year a snowmobile went through the ice two days in a row. He went through and lost the sled and then the next day he borrowed a nother and went out to see where he lost it.

When I was a kid, about the time dirt was made, we were out on a golf course.. It was kinda cold and this one kid decides he is going to try and walk across the pond.. well the ice was flexing as he slowly crossed it.. I didnt like the idea.. but he was the brave one. Well it wasnt long and he went thru!! I dont remember if he went under or not.. but he got out.. was drenched.. we started to walk home and he couldnt make it.. so we went to a house and asked the people if they could dry him and take him home.. I will never forget how cold I felt watching this kid turning into an ice cube as we walked. Left a good impression. I still dont like thin ice!!

Who was it that said.."Stupid is as stupid does"? Wasnt it someone's mom??

Mike tell them your cell phone is dead and you cant make the call when they get wet..

Dick
