National Marine

Can anyone tell me if a goverment agency can help me? I bought a passport extended warranty from NATIONAL MARINE. Now I want to cancell the policy and recieve a refund. Passport has been great to deal with no problem. Passport can not refund my money without NATIONAL MARINE signing off. NATIONAL MARINE refuses to sign off on the policy, therefor no refund. This is the second time NATIONAL MARINE has jerked me around with alarge sum of money(at least to me) Without getting an attorney is there a consumer watch dog that looks out for the little guy? Iam in Pa. they are in Ohio. It has been several monthsand I dont know what to do. Any help would be great! THe first incedent with the money was satisfied. THanks Daryl

bob 12-26-2002 05:05 PM

You need an OSO Bat! Check with Ike, he may have one! Good luck!

Magicfloat 12-26-2002 05:19 PM

Why do want to cancel?

Daryl 12-26-2002 05:21 PM

I have a couple friends that had zero luck trying to have anything covered. Loophles in the policy get them out of just about whatever they want.

Daryl 12-26-2002 05:32 PM

Thanks 105. Anybody else?

chrker 12-26-2002 05:35 PM

You could contact the Attorney General in PA. @ http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/ppd/b...orm/cmplnt.cfm

And/or the Better Business Bureau @ http://bbbcomplaints.e-asp.net/Welcome.asp

If it’s the one in Warren, OH it looks like they are a BBB member with the following status:

----------------------Start BBB Excerpt-----------------------------
Our file experience shows that this company (NATIONAL AUTO & MARINE INC.) has a satisfactory record with the Bureau. Complaints brought to its attention have been addressed promptly.

To have a Satisfactory Record with the Bureau, a company must be in business for at least 12 months, properly and promptly address matters referred to it by the Bureau, and be free from an unusual volume or pattern of complaints and law enforcement action involving its marketplace conduct. In addition, the Bureau must have a clear understanding of the company's business and no concerns about its industry.

Closed Complaints
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in last 36 Months: 1
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in last 12 months: 1

Complaints Concerned
Product Quality Issues: 1
Outcome of the complaint -
Company made every reasonable effort to Resolve: 1
----------------------End BBB Excerpt-------------------------------

Before proceeding, you may want to inform NM that you are about to contact the above agencies and that may be enough to sway their position.

Good Luck

truw but my biggest advice being a dealer for along time is they here it alot when people are irate.. the biggest thing with the dealer is to go to the top and STAY COOL..... don't make it sound like you are just pissed and making an idle threat..Also have the facts before you talk to them.. cause you know they know how it all works

Daryl 12-26-2002 06:22 PM

I have stayed cool but numerous unreturned phone calls. Three months worth, starts to annoy a person!

packinair 12-26-2002 06:26 PM

onw think I have noticed that works.. when they are on another call... they always will be.... I'LL HOLD!!! but he might be a long time.... I"LL HOLD!!!!

gdfatha 12-26-2002 07:03 PM

It is imperative that you document any attempts to communicate with them. Time, dates and results. Have you tried FAX??? or E-Mail?? Thats' good objective evidence you might need further down the road.

vagrant 12-26-2002 07:32 PM

Daryl,
Please give me a call 704-634-9004

Don't have a lot of advice for you, but wish you luck. Heck, I had trouble getting return email and phone calls from them to BUY something. I hope it works out for you.

jb 12-26-2002 10:00 PM

good luck..Call vagrant and put together an action plan. He has a beef as well... 2 minds 2 gether...
Perhaps National will hear you here and step up to help. Before this post gets deleted anyways. Be patient give National a shot at it.

Offshore Addiction 12-27-2002 06:35 AM

had customers ripped by many companies, most of the time if one call doesnt straighten it out, then one good letter from a lawyer should staighten it right out........couple hundred bucks for a factual letter from a lawyer is cheaper than 3 months of nerve racking conversations with employees that get paid to argue with you!

jafo 12-27-2002 07:08 AM

These guys have never once returned an e-mail of mine, and I have read the same complaint on numerous occasions from other members.
I would not even come close to considering a purchase with those folks since they don't feel it necessary to answer simple requests for information. The guy sending that e-mail just might be typing it while sitting on a briefcase full of cash. Their loss, I guess.
Hope it all works out for you- BBB and State's Attorney General's office are the way to go.

JeffGrice 12-27-2002 07:52 AM

Is National in Ohio? I contacted them the other day about a Fountain.....if the same...I'll go elsewhere.

Who's the best/closest dealer to Michigan? Seems like the local dealers got out of offshores.....JBM not selling Fountains any longer and Lands End stopped their PowerQuest line 2 years ago.

Thanks.

Jeff

vagrant 12-27-2002 11:45 AM

I am close to closing my Deal with them.I will let you know how it turns out. I have a feeling this thread won't be deleted, just keep it on a professional level and state the facts. The boat was surveyed yesterday. Minor problems were found but nothing bad.
Starboard engine has leak around the manafold and riser. National says they will take care of it. I hope to close this deal in the next couple of days.More to follow.

Jeff,

Try Riverview Marine in the Chicago Area. I have heard good things.

I bought my boat from them....

......and I'd like to tell you it was uneventful, I wont get into details, but we had a financial agreement between my sales guy and I that Bill didn't want to honor. It went down as agreed, after a battle. Bill was less than pleasant in his dealing with me, even before I made the deal. They did come through and tony was respectful even when things got ugly. Give them a chance to resolve, I think they know a little bad press on here can go a long way. They do have the inventory. Closest to mi. riverview near chicago was next closest. good luck

They are actually in Warren, Ohio about 20 minutes from Youngstown and about an hour from either Cleveland OH. or Pittsburgh PA.

Some people love them, and others have problems with them. The number one complaint I have seen is that they don't return emails or phone calls for requests for information. I have to believe that they are well aware of the problem and would hope that they are trying to come up with a solution.

Joe is a salesman at National and is at least making an attempt to communicate with Daryl and I hope the problem can be resolved.

National Marine is in my town and I want them to do good. I would try and help out any OSO member in any way that I can.
It is becomming harder to cheer them on when you see members having problems. I relize that every business is going to have some customers that are not happy for one reason or another. It is how fast that business tries to work with that customer to satisfy the problem that will make for a good relation.

I'm not trying to stir up anything. Please don't take it this way. Why does it take somethings, meaning things in general, to get this far, before anything, even a return phone call before things can even get talked about?

I realize some people can never be pleased and their is two sides to every story. I hope they do get their problem worked out. I guess I have to much time on my hands.

With National Marine being close to me, with an awesome inventory too, they are on my list to consider when going bigger.

bobby daniels 12-27-2002 05:21 PM

SURE HAS TAKEN JOE FROM NATIONAL ALONG TIME TO GET BACK TO US ???? MUST BE REAL IMPORTANT TO THEM ???
BILL HIONAS SHOULD BE ON HERE RESOLVING THE PROBLEM NOT A COMMISSIONED SALESMAN

jb 01-06-2003 09:39 AM

vagrant 01-06-2003 02:29 PM

JB, I can tell you one thing,National Marine has til Jan 20 to get my deal straightened out or SH## IS GOING TO HIT THE FAN!

45sonic 01-06-2003 02:45 PM

Now now guys just because they don't pay off boats and can't fulfill their contracts donesn't mean we need to jump all over them. Hopefully I will get my deal finished up soon also. Can't wait to have "fun" after it is all said and done. Right Dave !!

bobby daniels 01-06-2003 04:01 PM

YEP I HOPE THEY COME THROUGH BUT ????????

Off my list.

Good luck.

candyman35 01-06-2003 06:51 PM

Daryl,
Good luck. I hope they do right by you and the other members. When they clear things up let us know.

JeffGrice,
I bought my Fountain from Riverview, in Illinois, and have been pleased with the level of attention. I have always dealt with the owner Tim Edwards. His phone is 815-663-1000. As with any deal you still need to check around for the best deal. Happy shopping!

Someone has to pay for there new jet

Jan 01-06-2003 07:17 PM

My experience with National Marine seems to be the norm! This past year they had a 1998 30 ft SuperBoat with twin 300 Pro Max's w/3yrs of warranty remaining, boat seemed to be priced right.
Called 3 times about boat and emailed, all 3 times the receptionist said she would give message to a salesman, never heard ONE THING.
