shoe protocal
As told to me by a long time yacht builder in Holland, the protocol is to remove your shoes at the dock before tracking all that nasty stuff, fuel residue, sea gull residue etc onto the hull of the boat. when entering the salon socks are requested to eliminate the oils and "residue of your feet" from messing up the sole or carpets. When underway if you arent wearing shoes its a little crazy.

NO Shoes!!
I hate when people, usually non-boaters run across my freshly waxed deck and leave all kinds of black marks to help teh next guy rafting up!!!
AND...last year a girl wearing high heels jumped from there cruiser onto my sunpad and punctured the vinyl.
......NO SHOES or if your going to wear shoes HAVE RESPECT and walk on the towels I lay out for people to step on!!!!

It's just a boat!
I had a .38 Special a few years back. It was in perfect condition. I kept it inside a boat house on a lift. I was always worried about scratching it, or getting it dirty. Bought a hydrohoist, kept it waxed, yelled at the kids when they tracked sand in it etc. Stressed if someone opened a bag of chips. Had a cover made so it wouldn't get "dusty" in the house. Spent two hours cleaning the POS for every hour I used it. Too much work to keep a boat in that kind of shape unless you just want to park it and stare at it. Finally got rid of it.
It's just a boat!
Now I got a 42' Harley. It is older, buts it's made to use. Lots of non skid. Not alot of uplostery. Just give it a good hose and scrub once in a while, and thats it. Much better. My kids have more fun, I have more fun, because I know I won't be coming back to the boat house the next day for a two hour clean session.
I know several peaple that are totally anal about their boats. I call them boat slaves. The boat is their master. They will do anything for their master.
Guys, just remember: It's just a boat!
