I am not sure if boats work exactly as cars. If so, the state you are purchasing from may have a reciprocating agreement with the state you are registering in. If so, they will collect your states tax up to there tax rate. If your state is higher, you are resposible only for the difference when you register. If your state is lower, they should only charge you the amount due in your state.

You only pay taxes in the state of purchase if YOU take delivery of it yourself. Have them take it to the state line and pick it up from there.

Ask Vagrant about all this. I'm going to get his boat this weekend for him BUT if I pick it up at the dealer he has to pay Ohio taxes so I will be picking it up in PA. Makes no sense that if he hires someone to get it why he still has to pay the Ohio tax.

The same happened to me also when I bought my boat. Had them deliver it to me NO TAXES !!!!

I live in Jersey...bought a Suburban in Florida and paid FL sales tax when I got home to register it , I gave them the recipt from FL and since Jersey's sales tax was higher they took the difference
Also, bought my boat in Va (private sale) , towed it home and paid Jersey sales tax when I registered it , on the agreed value
