Question Safety issue

Back in the days when the common people could see attachments on this board ( like this morning ) I noticed something that troubled me and could be dangerous. In more and more cases I am seeing fire extinguishers mounted under the engine hatch on the transom. If this is not the only one on the boat I guess it's not an issue, but if it is.......... Could you reach it without burning yourself in the event of an engine fire?
And yes, this site is worth the money, I'll pony up happily.

Are you sure you weren't seeing a halon system?

i find it hard to believe that anyone would have anything other than an auto Fire ext. in the engine compart. and yes two in the cockpit is certainly a good idea.

I carry 4 in my boat.
State req's require 2 for the length
I keep two under hte back seat.
There is two holes under the back seat to spray into the engine compartment.
The other two I keep in the side compartments, one port and the other starboard. This keeps them handy in case

Bruce, believe it. The last one I saw was a $9.95 job mounted less that a foot from the carb. I am not looking to start a debate, I saw what I saw OK?

My halon is under the hatch. The handheld is to the right of my feet under the dash. Put 'em where you can reach 'em quickly.
