OT: T2x, I'm having trouble contacting Big Seas. The phone's mailbox has been full for days and the emails I've sent have not been answered. What's up?

RobD,

I know DaveP is just finishing up his rounds of boat shows including the Miami Show. This could be the reason for some delay.
I will try to reach him for you......

Re: Highest Quality Cat Builder?

[There all lot of good builders. I really think there are 3 levels. The first is for no holds barred high cost boats that Joe average cannot afford. Second a mid level average cost. Low end entry level. I my opinion it is difficult to compare a boat builder who focuses on one end or another.
I would be interested if we grouped the builders and then ranked them. Here's my shot
High end
Skater Mti Victory DCB Nortech

Mid
Eliminator Profile Ultra Advantage

Entry Level
American offshore Cougar Carrera

Please don't assume that entry level is a slam because it's not ment to be.

I don't know how you could rank DCB and Eliminator in two different categories. They are built using the same process and materials. Neither is vacuum bagged or using high tech composite materials in most cases. As a matter of fact I would say there have probably been more Eliminators built with special layups using carbon fiber ect... than DCB's. DCB's are know for high quality rigging, but you can get an Eliminator rigged to the same standards.

The Skater I just bought is in a different class than the DCB's I owned IMO. They are built for different purposes.

How about the new guy in town. My part of the country. Macomb/St.Clair County Michigan. Home to: Awesome, Ocean Express, Chris Craft (as in Chris Cat), Sunsation (Ok slipped in a V manufacturer) and the new guy Viscous Marine.

For those of you out of touch with the cat group, but Awesome on your debacle listing.

Have owned 2 cats....love the ride and the idea. But to answer your question: Price does not make a quality boat.......but no doubt the more you spend the more boat you get. They total amount of people that have cats or even once owned them are very few in the entire picture. I feel no one can justify which is the best unless they have owned and/or rode in them all. And then just a ride doesn't answer the big question.
Now that I feel I haven't answered the question...........it's just my $.02 worth of BS
