Highest Quality Cat Builder?

WHICH BUILDER MAKES THE HIGHEST QUALITY CATS. REMEMBER THAT DESIGN IS NOT THE ISSUE, BUT RATHER WORKMANSHIP, MATERIALS, ETC.

I KNOW I'LL MISS SOME. TOUGH. MAKE YOUR OWN POLL.

AppSysCons 02-21-2003 02:39 PM

Peter and the crew and Douglas Marine (Skater).
Materials and hull construction are 2nd to none.

Just my opinion

Dredgeking 02-21-2003 05:21 PM

Victory Team in Dubai. Michael Peters' design and America's Cup quality lamination - truely exceptional. If you haven't seen it, then you don't know what you don't know.

jolley, amt is one i forgot.

SKATER - Top Quality, Pete does stuff how he want's and it works. As far as performance they set the standards. Since the advent of the 24 Skater the changed the world of Cats.
MTI - Very Good stuff, alot of Skater and european influence.
MOTION - Good bottoms, clean up tooling and update the deck pretty good.
SPECTRE - Very Good stuff, TONS of creature comforts for an OFFSHORE boat.
AMERICAN OFFSHORE - OLD DESIGNS, still work but behind the times, some type of scandle going on their now.
AWESOME CAT - Some nice new deck tooling, haven't looked at one up close, old bottom design.
COUGAR - Canada or England? Canada small boats for the lakes. England classic OLD OFFSHORE BOATS.
EXPRESS CAT - Older bottom technology some very fast boats back in the day. Still alot of boats around.
HTM - Lake boats
JAGUAR - The 35 was THE boat back in the day, still old technology, but TIP QUALITY build.
NORTECH - Cool Designs, very modern, very trick, awesome finish, maybe heavy?
DCB - Lake boats, AWESOME finish and rigging, wicked fast small boats.
ELIMINATOR - Nice finish, lots of recent updating, the boats without the Pods are running well offshore.
PLATINUM - TOP QUALIT BUILT BY SKATER only one or two cats built so far.

Wait a minute...i thought this was supposed to be about "Quality" not design or functionality? So, who has had the "FEWEST" hull failures per boats built would be a better question.

tomjarrell 02-21-2003 11:18 PM

i just came from the l.a. boat show and pacific marine had a mti that just kicked ass. some of the best quality i have ever seen in fiberglass.
this boats quality is of an airplane.

good going mti

Think this poll would be more interesting if you worded it "after Skater" Just check the record, COST and PERFORMANCE!! Skater, Skater and Skater..

These polls are so subjective. We all are swayed by what we have owned or been exposed to. I own a 89 Eliminator 27 with twins and it is built like a tank, very heavy and durable but speed suffers due to the weight, 85 m.p.h. I don't mind the lack of top end knowing that the boat will not be all stressed cracked when I put it back on the trailer. I have since bought a 35 Jaguar cat and people that I spoke with while doing my research spoke very highly about the strengh of the hull. It may be heavy and it is, but the rough water ride and durability seems outstanding. I know that it won't be the fastest cat but the construction seems very sound. I have ridden in several Skaters and these boats were outstanding. Opinions are a wonderful thing, we all get to have one. My Eliminator is for sale, $40,000 on a triple trailer. Doug

skater40 02-22-2003 11:33 PM

Skater,MTI,Nortech-they are a tossup.All excellent.

Steve 1 02-23-2003 10:13 AM

Yes Gentlemen but what are they using for Material input??

RumRunner 02-23-2003 07:43 PM

Both Skater & MTI are great, but the Victory boats are insane !!!

enticer 02-24-2003 06:09 AM

stands to reason why the 2 manufactures are at 0%....it's the people you have to deal with

T2x 02-24-2003 01:27 PM

There really is no "contest" per se..............Skater......... Everything else near the top is derived from a Skater.

If you're buying.....and you can wait....... go for the original. If you're in a hurry, or want to pinch pennies........ Caveat Emptor.

DCB, no question about it...

wayne 03-04-2003 08:09 PM

still no one puts here what these boats are being built with , what materials ????? It seems that everyone just cast votes on either what boat they have or would like to have . Lets see what all these boats are made with ..

SHARKEY-IMAGES 03-04-2003 11:26 PM

If I ever get laid off from the phone company, I want to go to work for SKATER...;)
I always enjoyed paying attention to the details when laying up a boat.
I just wish they were located somewhere it is warm year round...:D

Did you have a bad story to tell enticer or was this just an idle quote? No hard feeling but I have a HTM and I have had great service with them since day one and after. No way is HTM going to be in the top but I like that. Their are many well built boats on this list. Some are affordable to some and then most are not. I like my HTM because it is a well built boat and in my price range.
Thanks, catmando

Come to SKATERFEST and you be the judge! Several different cats on display from different manufacturers.....

critter3gitter 06-13-2003 07:05 PM

if your wanting to know who's building the best boat with the most high tech materials. the answer is simple. they'er all using the same materials( kevlar, carbon, s-glass, e-glass, ect. ) most are now using epoxy although polyester and vinylester have worked well for many years. having worked for some of these manufactures as well as others, they will all be happy to build a boat to your specifications or help you with what you would like to do.most hulls are also simular in design, though some differ between flat and rough water. the choice is mostly influenced by your taste in looks.

The Nortec's really have the looks down. And you are right asking what went into them. Some due diligence before you purchase is necessary. I have had glass and Kevlar. In the furture I will stick with Kevlar and Carbon etc I.

The Nortec's are as sleek as a new Ferrari. Me and my buddy were talking today and I am going to unload some of the hardware I have and go for a Nortec when they start hitting the secondary market.

I have a few buddies who have them and they have nothing but praise for the boat and people they had to deal with.

This boat just has sex written all over it.

One thing I love about this board, some people are in the know. VictoryTeam sets the bar.
