I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 1994 25' OBSESSION CAT EQUIPPED WITH A MERC 525SC. I AM NEW TO SUPERCHARGED ENGINES, THERE IS ONLY 28 HRS ON THE BOAT. IF THERE IS ANY BAD FEEDBACK ON THE ENGINE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. IS THERE ANY MORE MAINTENANCE ON A SUPERCHARGED ENGINE??
THANKS

I received a used super chilled 525SC from a friend of mine that had two of them in his 38 Scarab (he blew a rod threw one of them) I think there were like 400 hrs on them. So I took the other one had it gone completely through and worked. It now is putting out about 650HP. I threw it into the Baja and have 35 hrs on it so far. It has worked like a charm! Total turn key. And you should here that little wiend scream when it raps up the RPM's!!
It's LOUD!! Great motor!! I've heard nothing but possitive things about them and have had good experiences with them. They ran good in my buddies scarab too. The only reason it threw the a rod is because one of the valve springs broke at about 75 MPH and things went down hill from there. They think whoever opened the motor up didn't properly adjust the springs, causing it to loosen and break form what I'm told

They are for the most part bulletproof...Merc techs will tell you that as well. One of the best "blue" packages ever. They are in a reasonable state of tune, and throttle response is excellent...especially in front of 1.5 gearing. You can speed the blowers up a little and add innercoolers and make about 570 hp tops, you are limited by the displacement of the blowers
