The wife and I are signed up to take the course Saturday after next.
It will be an all day, 8 hour course.
Whether or not we see a savings on our insurance, it will be worth it.

I took the Power Squadron's 8-week course (not the little 8-hour Boat Smart deal) back in '97 while my Donzi was being built and learned a lot. I've since joined the Squadron and taken several more of their courses.

I took the basic course around 10 years ago. Then I took the navigation course about two years ago. If you boat way offshore the navigation will be very helpful. For rivers, lakes or inshore its not that relevant.

I took the basic one a few years ago when they had it at my local library. Definitely worth the $40 or whatever it was for the book. I've been waiting for them to have more courses there since then, particularly the nav. course, but they never did.
I'm glad this post was started - now I'm going to go and see where they do have that class.
