I took the Power Squadron course back in 1967.
I will retake it this fall and take the wife too. I'd do it sooner but the wife still has college classes to finish.

I also took the Power Squadron's 8-week course in early '98 after I bought my first boat (24' Baja). Excellent course. Only missed one question that had to do with identifying blow-boats. Who cares what type it is, all I need to know is that they have the right of way under sail.
Recommend everyone take one - whether it's the one day, 8 week or on-line course.

How many people take the Coast Guard "Safety and Boating Skills" course? I took it in '96 and learned a fair amount, and save $100 a year on my insurance. My wife is taking it (and I am re-taking) starting tomorrow. The only cost is $40 for books. Just wondering who else bothers.
