My wife is not that interested, and I've been patience. She just gets to anguish. I told her most the other people don't know what their doing so relax, but it didn't work.
I had her pulling the trailer away with the 23' foot boat, worked OK. Then when we moved to the 28' foot and a bigger truck she hit a car parking the trailer. The worst part was she hit a car moved it 3 feet into another car. Worst than that the other car was actually her's, so we had a bent up trailer, a wrecked Cadillac and her car was dented up. We didn't have the kids that day so what was I thinking, OF COURSE: How do we get this over with as quick as possible, we are burning up boating time. So I'm back to doing it all, drive the truck and launch the boat. Can't afford to have another blemish on the auto insurance. |

your best kept secret??
:chick: CUTE! |
My wife was uncomfortable with our 28' - at first. Then I got her to start driving, and soon it was "Missy Throttle" at the wheel! One day toward the end of the second year we owned it, she calls my office:
"Do you have your boat keys with you?" "Yes... why?" "I'm going to stop by and pick them up, the girls and I are going out for ride today." "Ok..." Hell, I think she put more hours on it that year than I did! |
I am sure there is a lot more now!

You can add me to this list!

My wife puts the boat on the trailer, docks it, cruises in it without me. When I first got the boat she liked it(named it after her, "The Danita 1".) But she was intimidated by the size of the 34 at first and said she really didn't want to drive. Now that she drives the boat, I think she has much more fun on the lake. Heck, after on the trailer she details the thing along with me. She doesn't want to pull out with a water spot on the boat.
This summer I was following her out of the dock harbor in my dad's pontoon boat, some young ladies in a boat were just staring at her as she past them. One of them stood up and said, "That's too cool, I want my own boat." My wife has a lot of pride in our boat and enjoys it much more than I thought she ever would. It also makes it better for me, because I don't have to do everything. |
My fiancee and my mom both drive the boats. Like someone said - it makes it more fun for them. It also makes it more fun for me because I can have a couple of drinks and just relax on the way back. Being a passenger instead of the driver is like lifting about a 1000lbs off your shoulders. Its hard to relax when you've got 500+hp and your passengers lives under your fingers. I've also found that if you put the insurance policy in the their name it can save you a few hundred bucks.

I drove the Stinger many times and even docked it, but the Apache is a little more intimidating. I can drive it, but putting it on the lift/docking will be more difficult. The power from the props really pushes the boat and it's going to take some time.
Only had the boat since late August. I'll get comfortable wtih it next year. |
My wife drives our cat like she stole it. I'm usually the one saying ,SLOW DOWN!:cool-smiley-011:
|
I have always driven the boat since we bought it. I pull it off the trailer and back on. Heck, I raced it in a small shootout the first summer we had it. BankerRon drives it out to the cove, I drive it back. We each drive it.
I just raced it at the LOTO Shootout in August and drove it faster than it has ever gone. 79 mph for a 24' boat is quite a feat! I won my class too. I also work on the engine. Gordo teaches me everything. Him and I pulled the heads 2 summers ago. I did one side while he did the other. Now towing the boat is a different story, I leave that all up to BankerRon. He ROCKS at that. |
I can answer this question with one word.
Never.:D |
My girlfriend has zero interest in driving the boat, but has proven herself as fully capable. She's more interested in catching sun rays and sightseeing... works for me!
|
my wife drives and docks better than many. When there used to be speed runs , guys would ask her to take there boat through the gun. I would stand on shore and hope to hell she got it back in one piece. the boat that is.
|
my wife can drive all 3 of our boats.
she is not a big fan of docking, but as long as I keep my mouth shut, she does a fine job. she mainly drives the cig and navigates the bay , day or night without any problem |
I recently let my girlfriend start to drive the boat. She likes it but doesnt seem to give way to other boats with the right of way. Plus, she isnt too good at trimming the boat or throttling.
But she doesnt drink and I get absolutly shat faced most the time so its good to let her drive. Also, after I herniated a disk in my back, I figured she should know how to drive in the event that happened again on the water. |

My wife drives our 23 Concept. She will drive our BT in open water. Docking is on the schedule for next summer.
|
Count me in.... Drive, throttle, dock, wrench and wash :D
|
I am teaching mine slowly. She thinks she is ready to take the boat out for the weekend with the girls, I think otherwise. I have her drive the truck nearly everytime out now and is doing well at that though.

Recognizing the need to train spouses and partners of boat owners for emergency situations and to aid in the operation of the boat we are preparing a special ciriculium. Women are much more detail orientated and learn better in an all women enviroment. Rather than being yelled at or intimidated by thier male counterparts, women are usually supported by each other rather than being dominated in a mixed gender learning enviroment. I can guarantee many of these students will be able to outdrive non-graduate men with years of expierience. Details regarding date and time to follow. |
Expensive date,
thats a goodone. this year only moved the carver once.now i have to get her ready for the winter its tough to cruise at 20mph , watch all the markers and all the other boats pass you, when we can cruise at 55 and cut alot of corners and no wake zones with the cig. weather permitting we will be out this weekend |
I own a 28 sunsation and I drive MY boat. I am also a boat operator for LE agency I work for. Its great to get paid to drive up and down the River

Dont laugh too loud. Due to popular demand and the fact which women have a much different learning style than men, we are preparing a Womens Only Performance Boat School Class.

My wife does not seem to have much interest in driving our boat. Now the sports car is a different story.

My wife is a good driver. She is great with the trailer and is getting the hang of docking. The other day she backed up one of our trailers up our driveway about 350'. Not too shabby.
|
Wife can drive, dock and trailer all of our boats. She can drive the hell out of the cat and pontoon, she does not like to drive the vee at higher speeds she gets nevous when it leaves the water. On that same note she knows how to set the drive and the planes for turns and get off the throttle when it does leave the water I feel comfortable with her driving at speed.
|
My wife doesn't like to go on the boat. She is pretty good at taking the Escalade to the mall though:D
