Need help collecting money LONG distance

I did a install for some one on the left coast. I have patiently waited for a year and listened to more excuses then I can take as to why they have not paid (never have they mentioned a problem with the install). They owe me 750 bucks for my travel and parts (I never even charged for the install. I did it cuz all the guys out there in Cali have treated me and my fiance so well I consider them all friends and did not think he would screw me!!!!!!). Anyhow if any of you know of any way that I can put the screws to this clown I sure would apreciate the info. At this point all the contact info except for his AOL AIM name have been changed or do not work, so I am at a loss. Please any of you that know the name of this guy keep it off the board. I do not want this to turn to a slam fest just looking for ideas as to how I can get paid.

Jon,

Collection is tough. If you have a credit application and signed personal guarantee you will find some agencies that may handle it for about 50%. That is because it is so old, and they will have to be tracked down.

We only deal with business customer, no individuals and it is tough. The minimum is 20% if it is less than 120 days and they are still in business. It goes up the older and harder is is to collect.

I have tried three different agancies and they talk a big story, but if the customer don't want to pay, they will not get it. Usually they are only successful in collecting about half I give them.

Not that $750.00 is not a lot of boat gas, but I would write it off as a learning experience.

We require all new accounts now to complete a long credit application and pay for the first order by check or credit card.

It is too bad you cannot trust folks anymore.

You can file suit on him thru the justice court system there Make out some kind of bill add installation..have the paper served to a address that you know that the person is never home or want answer the door ,so you can get posted service .make sure the constable does not serve it to a person .You will get a court date. go to court and get the judgment .He want show up so you will get a default judgment.if you know were he works file a garnishment ,You will have to send it certified.to his job. find out what credit beauros that are in cal. get some forms from all and fill out and send to them to report on the his credit bureau report. You may be able to send a copy of the judgment to the court system in cal. also.I you had his ssi # it would be better.if they confront you on the posted service on the judgment just dismiss it. then its a wash.

send letters of what he did to you and pastdue notices to his Friends and neighbors.
I don't know your court system there but this can work here in Mississippi, thats what some one told me.

When you go on vacation(so they cant tell were it came from) mail him some anthrax.

Have a lawyer send a letter.

Pure Energy 04-10-2003 11:30 PM

I can't stand people like that! The guy that bought my checkmate stiffed the surveyor for 500 bucks! I say buy a plane ticket, show up at his front door and punch him in the face!!!!!! You won't get your money but you will feel alot better.

puder 04-10-2003 11:48 PM

jon i hear you.

a left coaster is pulling the same crap with me. He's an OSO member though. I've yet to amkea stink abtou it. BUT give iat few more days and everyoen will hear abotu it. FYI he is one of the better known OSO members. And he recently moved to florida.

I think the both of us emight justy chalk this up to a "learning experience". Sucks getting stiffed when you were just trying to help someone out. In my case it styarted as a "small favor" that somehow turned, literally, into a 1600lbs favor.

wwwTOPDJcom 04-11-2003 12:02 AM

Ya I would have to say thats sucks, He Received free labor
You cant complain about that ! he should at least pay for the gear! And Im sure Jon picked it up at below retail.

hp500efi 04-11-2003 05:26 AM

Yep, what Troutly said ;)

Biggus 04-11-2003 05:48 AM

In my town, if you don`t pay your property taxes they put your name in the paper.

It`s obvious this guy does not give a rats ass about you.Why protect him?

He is a regular at the other site, go get him :D

Payton 04-11-2003 06:17 AM

jon, Sorry to hear about this.
I say post his name. Let the board do what it does best.

Audiofn 04-11-2003 06:27 AM

I am not going to post his name just yet but given much more time and I will :(

Can I file a case against him in Mass? I mailed all the product from MA to him? That would obviously be the easiest thing to do. Just file the case hear and when he does not show up at leaste I will have the judgement against him and ruin his credit.

Jon

GLH 04-11-2003 06:38 AM

Name the low life f*ck.

I had a bunch of those youyouss (read IOU) when I played backgammon and they only way to get back was to let the backgammon community know who stiffed you, they couldn't get a game after that with a blind man in Caracass. Plus this isn't a gambling debt you actually did actual physical work for this guy. Sad

Shane 04-11-2003 07:45 AM

Jon,

Without a shadow of a doubt POST the F*&^ers name. As you know I did that with another OSO member that screwed me and his reputation has been tarnished for a long time. Furthermore, and more importantly, you will help protect other members from his harmful and less than honest tactics. It will also make you feel better. I would also file a claim against him in small claims court in your county. Get a judgement and then you can serve his local sherriff and they can seize bank accounts or any other assets in his name for liquidation. That is what I did with the OSO member I had trouble with. Took every bank account he had. Good luck my friend.

I would think some of the West coast brothers would try to help out

I think you should post his name for all to see. If he is not a stand up guy we should all know that about him and he should hang out somewhere else

Let it fly!!!!

CAP071 04-11-2003 08:45 AM

Well, do have this guy's home address, so you know where to start. Send Hi-Perf 2000 out there to collect :D

POST HIS NAME!

jawbreakerkid 04-11-2003 08:54 AM

jon- i say post his name. even if you don't get your money, you may help out someone else on the board that might deal with him in the future. it is amazing what people will do when a reputation is at stake.

good luck bro,
chad

Risk Taker 04-11-2003 09:26 AM

I'd post it. It doesn't sound to me that reputation is something this person worries about too much..........

Audiofn 04-11-2003 10:29 AM

I did have another OSOer try really hard to get me paid. He got many of the same excuses that I got :(:( I sent him some more bat messages today so I am going to give one last attempt to collect then I will let it fly.

Jon
I recently bought a truck down in the Carolinas.
I had BIG problems so I went to the local courthouse and filed a small claim against him (sm. claims go up to $5000 here).
I received a prompt payment shortly after.
He would have had to come to defend himself up here & figured he didn't have a good case anyway.
I don't know what the law is like up there but you should go the the Court & ask.

FunHome 04-11-2003 04:42 PM

I'd give it a little while, then post his name!! (I think I know who you are talking about) And if it's the guy I'm thinking about then post a topic about the situation on the other Message boards he hangs out on!!!

I hate to see this happen to anyone!! You, Guy's would not believe how many people take forever to pay for their Loved one's Funeral!! Some never pay at all!!!

FunHome 04-11-2003 05:45 PM

Don't I wish!!!

Strip Poker 388 04-11-2003 06:22 PM

Fun Home you can always do like the home in Georgia did, or don't bury till paid , Here i know they don't bury till paid here. hell Leave them on display .dig them up and send back the percentage of the body that was not paid .its prob all against the law i know.but satisfaction would be nice.

Cuda,

I file my fair share of cases each month in the Pinellas County Court for a client with three large multi-family housing projects in Clearwater. If you give me the details, I'll prep the complaint for you and send it down for you to file and prosecute on your own. Perhaps that will shake the 9k loose.
