boat shopping,,, questions, 26 convincer, 25 outlaw, 26 sonic and anything else...
The bigger/faster boat bug bit me, have a buyer for my boat, but don't want to sell unless I can find what i'm looking for. Have some concerns about the boats i'm looking into.
2000 26 convincer checkmate w/ hp 500 (non-merc.) the non merc. part has me bothered, but has what were looking for, windshield, C.C., speed, lenght. just not too thrilled w/ checks, not that I have owned one.
2001 sonic 26 got mostly what were after but has cramped cockpit, and me being 5.11 having a hard time seeing over the windscreen unless standing all the time,,, wife will be seeing plastic in here face all the time... all BOW too, not too thrilled but the like quality.
2000 outlaw sst. alittle slow, cockpit is o.k. heard baja admitted they had gel-coat problems from 97-2000 and the boats during those years are questionable, and do not want to have bottom paint and worried about blisters.
272, slow, nice cockpit, nice cabin, but in my price range still questionable gel-problems.
my price range is about 52,000 or under, would like 502 mag or better, speed min. 66 or better, roomy cockpit would be nice. cabin ammenities not too much a priority.
any comments about the following, or suggestions would be very helpful. maybe just keep what I have for a couple of years but the buyers market seems to be pretty good right now.. signed, very confused...
P.S. do not want a stepped boat...

I am 6'2", and I really like my 26' Sonic. The cabin is awesome, and the boat is built incredibly solid; much morseso, (IMHSMO )
than the others on the list. I rarely find myself sitting in my boat, and you will have to drive the boat to see how you are comfortable. It is not as bad as you think with the windscreen. Not at all. You cannot go wrong with that choice.
I have my 1999 Sonic 260 Prowler, with HP500EFI unoffically for sale; and in your price range. I love this boat, but a bigger one would be sweeter. There are several Prowlers for sale on this board, and in great shape. Mark in So. MD's boat is a steal!!!!!!! If I were shopping in your arena, I would buy Mark's boat in a heartbeat. (Red, White & Blue, 502 Mag). Take a ride in the Sonic in 3-4s, and you will buy it that day.

My choice would be the 25 Outlaw. I know several people on this board with the 25 and no gelcoat problems at all. These guys arent exactly easy on them either. With a 502 that boat has a speed of 67-68 (GPS). Very stable in the rough stuff. 26 Sonic would be my 2nd choice for sure.

Thanks guys keep it comming..
I talked to mark about his sonic, thats what led me to put my boat up for sale in the first place.
I actually have 3 friends w/ prowlers, 2 99's and 1 2003. the tall/narrow cockpit makes it feel even more cramped. the bow is huge and the windscreen too tall for the wife. other than that a very nice quality built boat, the ride is great, and the speed isn't bad either. I guess, were just looking for a roomier cockpit.
I also am looking at velocity, p.q., and everything in between. obviously in the 26-28 ft range.

to answer your question, yes I am also looking into 27 fever, 288 sunsation (actually found a 2001 for like 42,000 but only has 310 hp mpi 454, will be slow. 28 pantera has twins right ?? not interested in twins, and trying to stay 27 or under.
reasons to get rid of the 232. we pretty much only boat in the river now and its a lot rougher than the lake we used to boat on, need captains choice, would like more speed, and a 26 most definitely will handle the chop a lot better.
also, looking for 99 or newer...
P.S. I have found several 2000 and 2001 outlaws that I would be intereted in,,, BUT most of them have rear bolsters,, would really like a rear bench,,
