How do you know that when the drive broke the skeg didn't come over and hit the other drive, thus causing it to break off. ???

VERY good question...1st we could totally feel something let go and the boat start sliding...but we still had 100% power going to both props...2nd...THE best part!...the props had NO damage to them!....we were amazed that nothing really made contact with anything other than water.

SLINGSHOT 05-21-2003 02:03 PM

joey maybe you are just turning it toooooo hard!

ROTFLMAO!!!:D

audacity 05-21-2003 02:23 PM

man how the HELL did you get "no human error involved"....where did i say that!!!??you really have no idea what i'm about!....in fact it is TOTALLY our fault...it is your responsibility to know the limitations of both yourself and your equipment!...in fact we even made other errors in set up for that race...inevitably the fault is only ours!...we take full responsibility for our actions and our results!! we win and loose as a team...we did not sit there and try to lay blame on something other than ourselves!!...we assessed the facts and try learn from them...

on a side note...we had a GREAT weekend and we had a GREAT turn out to watch us race...we most defiantly walked away feeling really good about the weekend as a whole!!!

cigarette1 05-21-2003 02:26 PM

Joey is taking the high road

You must be burning up inside :hothead:

CigDaze 05-21-2003 02:44 PM

Joey, that's very honarable of you to say that and accept responsibility and blame/fault. Thankfully, no one in your boat or another boat was hurt.....

However, why must you denigrate others when they might find themselves in a similar situation. On more than one occasion, I can recall you railing someone who doesn't have full chase helicopters, thousand dollar life vests, rescue boat enterouge, telemetry computers, etc,etc when they go out to hit the water with a new hp motor. Or god forbid someone disagrees with you. I've been in that situation before and it's not pretty. Or how you can completely disrespect legends in our sport who have been around a long time and have experience with many craft perhaps unfamiliar to you...The technology you praise so highly came from somewhere...Some of it, in fact, pioneered in not-so-ideal mobile test lab conditions.

Believe me, no one wishes harm to you or is relishing this incident, but it has caught enough attention from those of us who have been witness to your attitude and arrogance, to make a mental note.

But this is just one man's aint-never-known-nuthin' observation. :)

I have to agree with Daze.......... As a matter of fact it has reinforced my religious tendencies....... all through this thread a thought has continually echoed in my head......

There is a God, and he works in mysterious ways....................;)

T2x......... glad no one was hurt....but amused at the irony

P.S. Fred......... You're killing me too :D :D :D

Firewalker 05-21-2003 03:37 PM

a few thoughts I have

1- if the drives are lower, the chance of the skeg breaking are slim, the sportmaster has a thick skeg, and can withstand extreme X dimension without snapping on much faster boats than the Donzi (or any other Vee for that matter).
2- if the skeg came off with the boat moving in the direction of thrust the skeg would have gone through the prop blades, apparently they didn't have a mark on them so as an outsider looking in, I would say that those drives were moving sideways when the skeg decided to leave (read the boat was already spinning)
3- a vee does not even approach the forces on a drive that a cat does and the sportmaster is working well with more hp than a 525, and the skegs are staying on.

The laws of physics do not steer you wrong.

audacity 05-21-2003 03:43 PM

the pics are still on phils and Q's computer...they should have them all to me tomorrow.

BD i would really like to see where you have gotten these views...i do not think that but i can see how i may have mis communitacted my point at times.

T2x...i'm not going to comment on your tendencies. but it's always nice to see your thinking of me....

ps...it should make no difference if i was hurt or not...the facts are still the facts....

SPITFIRE 05-21-2003 03:52 PM

the love

I'm just not feeling it around me but I am enjoying my popcorn. Great banter, very entertaining!!!!!!!!!!

audacity 05-21-2003 04:09 PM

RT,,,yet another GREAT observation!...the skeg it self did not come apart...it took 1/4 the case with it as well for the most part clean..."The laws of physics do not steer you wrong"...i could not agree more....failure analysis is nothing new to us...we see this day in a day out.

our (F2 and F1) are the only boats using the sportmaster lower in an application where it was not designed to. why would anyone install it to go slower....we also are 9800lbs at the start of a race! the math is really not on our side....

That having been said...... I suggest that you look in the eyes of any family members or people that love you. Ask yourself if you really want to hurt these eyes by doing something to harm yourself....and then re-read your answer above.

All of us are valuable to somebody...... even, if not to ourselves.

CESSNA 05-21-2003 04:17 PM

I HAVE TO AGREE FULLY with Daze and Too Old ,glad no one was hurt though

Velocity Tom 05-21-2003 04:18 PM

Activethunder Todd I didn't see you in Fort Myers this year for the race. But thats ok it was joke we didn't have a race we had a bunch of guys (11) going round and round.

audacity 05-21-2003 04:29 PM

T2x...the facts are still the facts...just as i told my new wife...this is not what i do, it's who i am...it's a package deal...climbing vertical mountains/ice and racing are not all that safe....i would love to die in my sleep...but the cards a really stacked against me so it seems!...dre' is also very aware that i have done some permanent damage to my body and will both pay the price for it later....

so the question really is are you and your family willing to pay consequences? or do you brush it under the rug and 'hope' for the best?

outer42 05-21-2003 04:35 PM

you need mental help, audacity.

Dayumm

I hope you guys are all civil when you meet in person.

I thought OSO was buddy-buddy.

Instead we got armchair quarterbacks.

Audacity has gone way beyond the necesary "mea-culpas" and taken responsiblity for the incident of the skeg; and some others want more. Geesh.

And on top of all that this is a thread about an Active Thunder possibly doing a barrel roll which is obviously in question as to wheter it really happened.

Joey,
Have they done any testing on the metal from the drives to find out if metal was fatiguied, improper heat treating, or someother type of internal flaw?? i would be intrested in knowing the results.

BryanTuvell 05-21-2003 06:50 PM

Good reading. Hang in there Joey.
Who are the points leaders now for S Vee and F2, the APBA site has not been updated.
How did Donzi Finish in these races?
Thanks.
Bryan

Pete B 05-21-2003 06:56 PM

BT,
The donzi SV came in 2nd, in f-2 snap-on tools came in second, joey got fifth place after his spin. and Team Fisher did not show due to boat still in repair from Daytona. But will be ready for savannah.

x-caliber 05-21-2003 07:15 PM

TYPICAL, everyone wants to nail someone!

Audacity is GREAT for the sport, but many here want to hang him out because he is outspoken and confident...Joey, keep it up and keep us informed...all the BEST racers have learned the hard way!

But WHAT about the Active Thunder? I heard that one rolled in maryland and one rolled in Pompano, the one in Pompano had a WORLD CHAMPION racer operating the boat, so why is that? And did another one roll lately?

Pete B 05-21-2003 07:21 PM

X,
They are just bustin his balls. why because this is america and they can. :)

Please don't feed the trolls.

totalmp 05-21-2003 08:49 PM

We currently have Jeff's boat, as we are doing service work. The boat was last run at the Tickfaw 200 poker run. It ran flawlessly, 95MPH all day long. It is safe and secure, right side up of course.

Steve

x-caliber 05-21-2003 08:56 PM

Troll feeding? Whatever, but since Jeff's boat didn't flip, who's did? And what about the one off Pompano? And what about the one off Maryland (now located in Virginia)?

US1 Fountain 05-21-2003 09:02 PM

Fred,
Dude, you got WAY too much time on your hands. Funny chit!

BTW, I broke off my skeg last yr and I was not in a spin, going straight, so it can happen. But then, there was this rock reef thingy...... ;) Was not my fault. I didn't see it.

When we went out Saturday my cat rolled over about twice. But then we fed him and he started walking normal!! :D

ActiveThunderTodd 05-21-2003 09:39 PM

x-caliber...old news pal...

do we have another multiple id posting going on here??? hmmm, seems funny how he just shows up today to bring up old chit. oh well, bound to happen again.

Bosco 05-21-2003 09:50 PM

Back to the original topic here, I only know of (2) that have done the turtle. One was off Pompano beach out testing for a race. I think, Yeah it was the Outlaw boat with Ricky racer at the helm.

The other was owned by another racer and was his pleasure boat, I forget the guy's name. **** happens!

x-caliber 05-21-2003 09:51 PM

WOW, what an attitude from this ActiveThunderGuy? All i asked is what happened? Is is NOT true OR a SECRET? WHAT IS the real story?
