Fountain on the rocks

This happened last Friday at midnight in the Northern California Delta. The driver got disoriented, thought he was still in channel. He was doing about fifty or sixty. Nobody was hurt or arrested, the boat however suffered about $100K in damage. The boat sat there throughout the whole memorial weekend for everyone to see. It was removed today

Sorry about the white area, had to remove some text

PhantomChaos 05-27-2003 06:55 PM

Whoa..........50-60 is just too fast at night, even with a full moon (which I don't think there was).

Playn 05-27-2003 06:57 PM

ouch

Mate 229 05-27-2003 06:58 PM

Ouch thats gonna leave a mark!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watch out for it on EBay

cigarette1 05-27-2003 07:02 PM

I guess he's not going to make the S.C.O.P.E Poker Run this weekend in Long Beach California ;)

Not to good - glad to hear no one was hurt.

LapseofReason 05-27-2003 07:22 PM

We had a guy do the same thing out here about two or three years ago, he thought the runway lights at the airport were the channel markers and put a 29 Fever on the rocks. The boat was 4 mph faster with the fixed / blueprinted bottom it got.

Donzi Corleone 05-27-2003 07:42 PM

Better hope the insurance company doesn`t do a Triple By-Pass on the claim (100k).

florida gator 05-27-2003 07:52 PM

Triple Bye Pass is probably what I would need if that was mine.

GLH 05-27-2003 08:40 PM

Ouchhh.

Thats bad, but this was worse...:(

burtandnancy 05-27-2003 09:24 PM

Its got a number on the bow, I think its a ski race boat (was). If you look real close you can see the fine line where they cut off the beak to make it a 39 footer. Theres a lot of ski racers in Nor Cal. I think I know the owner but I'm going to make a call before I mention a name...

I don't see it, where?

dockrocker 05-27-2003 10:57 PM

Well, what do you expect - put the throttles on the wrong side of the wheel, the poor guy is bound to get disoriented! :p ;)

50-60 at night is Darwin at work, IMHO. Guy is lucky he didn't kill himself or someone else.

pullmytrigger 05-27-2003 11:09 PM

50 or 60 at night...........hello!!!
Like drockr said, lucky he didnt kill someone.....like the two couples out in the canoes for a paddle at midnight with no lights...........

Glad no one was hurt. Too fast at night.

He may of had less damage if he had Volvos. :D

CigDaze 05-28-2003 08:06 AM

Nice...what a shame. :(
Could have been a lot worse.

Tantrum 05-28-2003 08:16 AM

Glad to hear nobody was injured.
Lucky it didnt roll...
I would think 50-60 would have gotten him further along that bank. By the look of it the boat stopped within 50 feet or so.

Turbojack 05-28-2003 08:18 AM

If the boat was going 50-60, would it not have gone further up & over the rocks?

Turbojack 05-28-2003 08:22 AM

Tantrum- Didn't mean to repeat you, After I started doing my post I had phone call & it took me a while to get back & finish post. I then post & see you asking the same thing.

CigDaze 05-28-2003 08:25 AM

Judging by the short chop and color of the water, I would think the boat was already decelerating through the shallow water before it made it to land.

gdfatha 05-28-2003 08:39 AM

Also, from the angle it kooks like he saw sumptin and was trying the turn and went up ata 45* angle.

Glad no injuries were reported..

I was told he realized his mistake just before hitting the rocks and tried to reverse

Brad 05-28-2003 10:27 AM

A 2001 35 Fountian did the same thing on Lake Murray SC a couple of years ago. Guy was running to fast at night and hit the dam.

When whe got the boat backed he named it
"On The Rocks"

hot water 05-28-2003 11:12 AM

Maybe we should name this one "Runaground Sue" :p

That pic is from an incident that happen about 3 or 4 years ago.
Two guys from Wisconsin were on their way down to Indiana and did not see the break wall in Chicago.
Tried to turn at the last second but still hit and rolled it over.
Driver was ok but the passenger got hurt badly.

25 Eagle 05-28-2003 11:32 AM

Guy in a Fountian did the same thing on Lake Mead about 4-5yrs ago and killed 4. Speed at night is stupid, add booze and ya got double trouble. Glad no one got hurt in this time.

Shane 05-28-2003 11:43 AM

What is it about Fountains and all these accidents? :o

GLH 05-28-2003 11:46 AM

Probabilities... there are a lot of Fountains out there and they are fast.

Helmwurst 05-28-2003 01:11 PM

My guess would be closer to 30 mph. Not enough damage for 50 to 60 on the rocks. Seen a 28 foot cuddy climb a rock cliff at 30. Killed the passenger.

ModMachine 05-28-2003 01:48 PM

This one was also from N. Cal Delta also.Probably not far from the other one.
The website it came from said that 2 people died in this crash.
Alcohol was a factor. :(

Wow, another one to watch out for on ebay!
