I don't think it would hurt to send the mayor a note, but we do need to be very careful how things are worded.
Remember that one bad, nasty boater can ruin it for everyone.
We should merely suggest that there seems to be some confusion as to weather or not the Worlds have been canceled. Many of us have made our reservations with many Key West businesses, and may have to cancel them... bla bla bla, we always enjoy coming to Key West to relax and watch the boat races and it would be a shame to not have an event..
Thank you for welcoming boat racing to your town,

Bob Hugeboat
Runsouth, NY

Be careful boys..

I just got an email from APBA Offshore that said it looks like the race will be in Orange Beach the week before! Why not race from Orange Beach to Key West??? Now that would be a ride.

Maybe it's not too late, we should flood the Mayor with emails.

Alabama...
I won't be able to run up there...
Now, I will be able to drop into the pack if you guys are racing from Ala, down to KW. Now that would be cool.

What ever happened to the talk about racing TO the Bahamas, not AT the Bahamas???

True.

Here is my offer. It may not sound that way, but I make most of my money playing Red Adair for large corporations. If things blow up communication-wise, they call me.

I offer these (usually well paid ..) services to the first taker as pro-bono work.

This offer is good for 24 hours.

Here you go guys, not much to it. I had emailed their general info address on their website asking them if the Key West Race was going to be an APBA sanctioned event. This is the response:

"Shawn\
As of right now it looks like we will be going to Orange Beach, AL instead of Key west and it will be the week before. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you
Deanna"

Dated today

i just got off the phone with lee mills. he said i could post info on what we discussed. i don't want to be in the middle, but here are a few non-confrontational statements from the conversation.

1) lee said that he has paid the sanction fee. there is more to this that i don't want to go into.

2) he will make a public statement by the end of the week. maybe in a day or so.

3) the races will be run using apba rules as the guidelines. this also means the classes racing will be the same classes that run in apba.

looks like the line has been drawn and people will need to decide wich race they will participate in.

hopefully mike a and lee will make their statements and we will be able to decide for ourselves.

What about the course? Is it going to be in the Harbor or out?

This reminds me of the old IRL CART fight. For the record, the IRL is winning that battle.
