Default Excalibur 24

Anyone have any knowledge of these boats, am considering a 1977 24' with a Speedmaster 3 and a new (?) 454 in the Syracuse area. Does anyone have any opinions on the boat and quality issues (stringers, etc.?) Does anyone live in the Syracuse area and can help an OSO bro out by taking a look? I would have a survey done before doing any deal but if I hear something I don't like from anyone here, I may not even go ahead with the survey. I know its old but could it be that the boat is well built enough that age is not as much a factor as it may be with other boats? Thanks in advance...Matt

Matt, I looked at that boat a couple years ago. It needs some work. The Speedmaster while being a strong outdrive is expensive to repair and props are hard to come by and they are not cheap. There is no back seat to speak of. There is a space, sort of, for maybe a cooler. It's an old boat.

He knows of the boat and can give you a more detailed description. Like I said, it was a couple years ago and think about it, it's still for sale. That's got to tell you something. How much is he asking? If I am not mistaken, the boat won the Grand Island Marathon on the Niagara River many years ago.

Russ: that's exactly the kind of input I was hoping for, thank you. The deal we are talking about was a trade for a Harley so it would put the value at around $8500. My main concerns are the stringers and transom. The hull has had 25+ years to get moisture into the coring wood and rot it out. Don't want to get involved with that. The owner also gave me Chris' # and told me to call him. Do you think its even worth trying to set up a survey or is this thing too old? By the way, your Activator is very nice, those are great boats. I met Mark S. at the Cape Cod races back in 2002, nice guy. There were 4 Activators racing that day. Again thanks the info...Matt
