Fountain raced a v-bottom this past summer (in SBI I think) that had the weisman two engines inline drive system. Although the boat did not have a nonfunctional $70000.00 orange paint job, I would consider this "updating". Not that long ago, the Zenitix(sp) boat had a good finishing record in racing, so Fountain is still "updating" its racing boats.

The main improvement with the Outerlimits is the now available epoxy resin layup.

Because the engine rules for these attempts are so loose, it is now time to consider an alcohol fuel system in these "world record" attempts. Fountain had an engine with alcohol burning secondaries (carbs) in a previously successful attempt.

To quote a drag racer "Gasoline ain't even good for washin' parts".

Regards

Mr offshore,
outerlimits are cutting edge,to run those speeds and be safe and secure is cutting edge. example my friend who has a fountain runs with me and gets back in his fountain and says no comparison. in my old 37 or my new 42 the same thing. You need to take a ride and you'll see. it's like buying a chevy or cadilac. fountain has a nice boat, but he is a productin boat. ol is a custom boat with only 15 to 20 built in a year. fountain has been in business a long time ol has only 10 years and has become the premiere boats. fountain hold alot of records, but the 37 expoxy with 525 in runs 95 mph, can a footing without bumping the motor. it is cutting edge in a short time
like animal house said the boys from ol stepped up and helped get the poker run boat that reggie was driving fixed,so they could do the run.
It's all good!!!!!

"...from an aesthetics standpoint, they have evolved as much as any other offshore offering."

I haven't seen a brand new Fountain in a while..do they still come with the Dune Buggy steering wheels?

--------------------YAWNING-----------------------

as i always say Fountain must be doing something right
because everyone COMPARES most to them!!!!!

why hasnt this conversation included other performance boat manufactures and there achivements?

makes me proud to thing that my fountain gets the same attention as a outerlimit @ a 1/3 the price!

What later said.........
I listened to everyone compairing there boats to
Fountain so I purchased one.
Now I'm on my second.
I've been boating with Fountains for over ten
years.
The only major problem I had was on my first 35 in
which the engine/drive alignment was off
and I had chewed up a coupler.
The boat was used and off of warrenty.
Fountain stood behind the problem 100%
Never had a broken door on any of my boats.
Dune buggy steering wheel???
Kind of an old jab that isn't very origanal isn't it?
My boat has a Dino on it from the factory.
Bottom line is I enjoy what I have
and that's fine with me.

Mr. Offshore,

Check out the 2002 Powerboat magazine test of the 38 Fountain. You asked for equal boats, here you go.

You will find that the fountain needs 575's to get 91 on GPS, The OL uses little 525's to run 96mph on gps. (the boat at the Ft. Lauderdale show if you were wondering)

I don't know what the OL is selling for, but I'd be willing to bet that the $361,000 for the 38 Fountain is not all that cheaper that what you can buy that Outerlimits.

I know you want to see equal boats run each other to compare, but honestly, do you want to see the 37 OL w/ 575's hit 100? A 5 mph difference is bad enough, but if it's 9 mph you want, you got it.

It was a joke...notice the
I'd be happy to own a Fountain myself...of course I'd have to change the wheel though.

This is almost becoming as ridiculous as some of the Apache threads!
