FYI....ALL Mercury Racing 525 SC's left the factory with black superchargers.
Regarding the picture of the engines in the boat ad, they are not a pic of any Mercury Racing engine package.
ALL 525's and Carburated HP 500's left the factory with Gil Exhaust, the pics clearly show CMI Elbow Tops. The only engines to leave Merc with those headers are 600 SC's which those engines ARE NOT and of course the new 575 SCI's which again, they ARE NOT.
Those engines could be anything. My guess is that they started life as HP 500's as indicated by the flame arrestors and some other identifiable items and had actual HP 525 Superchargers as indicated by the casting of the superchargers added along with CMI elbow tops.
However, the 525's used Dominator carbs and the 500's used 800's, so the flame arrestors could be aftermarket with 500 decals or the superchargers have 4150 series carb adapters or ? The fuel lines are not std. Mercury Racing.
There you go, clear as mud. The only thing for sure is that they are definately not STOCK Mercury Racing 525 SC's.

Late production 525 SC's (490 PS HP) were available/came with with CMI elbow tops. Yes, all the blowers were black Wiend 177's with Merc badge on the side of the case. They were strong and dependable, with a long service life (generally speaking for a blown motor). Smaller top pulley and a chiller get you about 550 HP, that's about it for that package tho for bolt on's.
