I believe he took a picture from another ad based on a complaint from another member with another ad.

Not 525's.
The blowers on 525's are HP Blue also.

You got yourself a classic used boat hopup mystery.

Here is a stock Mercury 525SC. This one was in my 28 Pantera. It was reliable, had good power, idled well and had that cool blower whistle/whine sound at speed.

mcollinstn: I think that you are thinking about the 575SCi. It is all blue. The engines look very similar, but have two main differences other than the color. The 525SC used the 454 block and was carbureted while the 575SCi uses the 502 block and is fuel injected. Here is a picture of the 575SCi.

Duck, I'm not confusing the motors, but I AM basing my comment on only a single pair of 525's. Apparently the pair I am familiar with are not representative of how most of them came from Merc.

Friend had a '93 Formula 336 with 525's.
Blowers were definitely blue. That boat, though, had been in Orange Beach for a season before I ever saw it here in TN. He had dropped a valve in one of them and had done a bit of work to it while in Orange Beach as well. I never asked, but assumed the blowers were blue from the factory.

I also assumed all 525's were the same as his.

I just saw him yesterday and will see him again on or around the 10th. I'll make a note to ask him about the blue blowers.

He currently has 575SCi's and the blowers are most certainly blue, and were blue from the factory. (and they are a lot bigger blower, too).
