Thank Mom for the pictures. She spent a lot of time in the chopper over the years taking pictures. Wish I was born back then.

Gotta love those Sutphens....

Does anyone know does Mr. Sutphen ever look at OSO?

Found this picture,,, crappy scan but wow this must have been one heck of a boat...

I think Christie may look at OSO. Someone should ring her up and get her to post some pics...he had a bunch on the walls.

The boat in post 302 is "Intimidator", a 30' Sutphen.
SinkorSwim, I know Rich Jr. checks out these threads.

Double vision.
One for rough and one for calm.
30' Sutphen for the calm races
33' Viper for the rough ones.
Who had it better than us?

Should this thread be moved to the Sutphen forum, so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle? Such a great resource for would-be owners, and enthusiasts alike.:)

Ok,, we all have heard about the the OL running close to 150 with 1300+HP,,, what would happen if you put same set up in one of Mr. Sutphen's 40 footers? Could we expect the same kind of speeds?

Oh by the way Fred, (Too Old), notice something that most of these Sutphens have in common... they all are in the water with people driving them.... :D

Couldn't resist.. I hope that you can make to LOTO this year with that big fella...

Biggus 01-09-2004 09:40 AM

Fred your Sutphen would be perfect for a pair of 540" R-tech Supercooler motors. I believe you would have a 100+ mph ride for relatively short $$

Have you seen tomcat`s new thread in the tech section??

Give me a call sometime you old goat :D

bob 01-09-2004 11:57 AM

Sinkor swim/ from my perspective the OL and Sutphen are two different ytpes of boats. OL is set up to chase a MPH figure and Sutphen is probably better suited for rough water durability, rough water performance etc. Not to say the OL is not well constructed, obviously it is. You can probably ask any one that has seat time in a Sutphen and ft for ft they probably have the most comfortable ride out there and set the benchmark on turning ability. If you remember, the 32 had the Factory 2 Kilko record for a year or two so the design seems to work fairly well...without the steps. Both are excellent boats!

I know of a 30 or 31" with surface drives for sale with trailer. He may or may not still have engines but I'm sure tranny's are there.

I owned this boat from 1986 until 2000. Didn't pay alot for it ($4000) but sure did have alot of fun in it!!!:D :D Went thru 6 engines in 14 years but that Volvo outdrive always held together!! Had a 340 Mopar in it most of the time (came new with a 318).

These first two are from 1986 when I first got it.

PS- I wish I had a dollar for every time that someone said "Is that an old Donzi ?":D :D
