Go to a place that can order you Formica and ask to see the samples. My buddy is a carpenter and did the top of his bar in the diamond plate patterned stuff - came out pretty cool.
He ordered it from the same place he gets all his other Form

The loneseal is a rubber product meant for a floor application. It's a pearescent material and is quite pricy. For cabinet faces, I'd recommend a high pressure laminate. Yes, the old formica is available in a diamond plate pattern with a metallic finish.
