I'm running 510 c.i. 645 h.p. Sterlings. Single carb, naturally aspirated. I am very pleased with them. They were much more affordable than one would expect, and much less expensive than Mercury. Mike, Ed, and all the people at Sterling are great to work with. I don't think you can go wrong with them. It's a plus the shop is a little over 1 hour from me - it's definately a factor to consider.

Really, just kidding.
After my recent balst across Lake Michigan in Ancestoral Spirit, I like the Cheif engines Parnel has in his boat. Ran flawlessly.

Chiefs!
Tommy is great to work with, honest and competent. His engines have insane torque and our reliable. Plus, your not doing topends at 50 hours, or losing valuable boating time.
#6's are the way to go...spend the money and never look back. Also, Marc at BAM's 1500 drysump trannie will make sure there are no weak links.
Other factors, location of the builder, do they specialize on cats or vees, time between rebuilds (hydraulic vs. solid lifters), how long has the company been around, etc.

A buddy of mine had an engine built by these guys and he is very very happy with it. This guy is as anal as they come and excellent to work with. If I were to have engines built it would be by him.
