Get Out Now!!!!!

Why do so many people stay living in the Northern part of the country? Year after year you hear the same ole crap. I couldn't deal with a 3 or 4 month boating season. I'm here to tell you that the grass IS greener on the other side of the fence!! You just won't be living next to your mother-in-law.....that too makes for greener pastures. I bet one person, after reading this thread will say, "you're right", pack their chit up, sell their house, quit their job, trailer their boat down, find a new job, home, friends, etc... and then thank me for putting a jump start on life for them. OK already....your welcome. Email me when you are settled and we can go boating.
Here's a shot of December at the boat ramp. |
Who wants to move down South and earn 60% of what your paid here to do.
Costs $220 to fly to FL for a weekend, easy to scratch the hitch. Plus we don't need a ski hat when it's 60* out! |

There has never been enough money ever printed to get me to live north of Cleawater.:)
|
I can make a helluva lot more money up here.
I can take my boat to Florida for the winters and fly down to use it. Nice place to visit, but no thanks to all of your other problems down there. I hope the last person out of Miami remembers to grab the American flag. I'm a north woods guy, and I'll probably always be....:) Jim |
It's tough to give up a style of living once you've grown accustom to it. Hell, if I knew I could make the same $ in SC, GA, or FL... I'd be there in a heartbeat! Not that there isn't any money to be made there, but there just aren't the same opportunities when compared to the northeast.
I hate this cold ****, but it gives me time to do things I would never get done if the weather were nice... like remodeling the bathroom. Living along the CT coast is wonderful for seven months out of the year... the other five leave a little to be desired.;) |

It's kinda nice having a killer frost. Too many freek-azz bugs! :)
|
You can count Todd & I in for the South!! Just wrapping up a few things here and we're joining you Ospreyproduction!!
Todd wants to be able to walk outside and jump in the boat. Not deal with getting a flight, flying and spending half the weekend (night after work for that matter) just getting to the boat! For the rest of you....Cuda & us will send pic's via snail mail, so you can hold them:p  :fish:  :fish:  |
Originally posted by Troutly Yeah, but Double Wides and beer are cheaper down there.......Here is a picture of one that needs a bit of work.....it got tweaked a bit when his slightly obese cousin (second wife) stopped by to visit for a spell.....and stepped on the porch  :D BTW, I once moved to Minn. I lasted one night, flew my azz back to Florida the next day. Luckily it was February when I tried that! |
i don't know what you guys do but I will make twice as much down south. That is because right now i live in hobunk ville and he is right, it is freakin cold..
|
I really feel sorry for you southerners. Never to grab onto a sled and rail a frozen lake at 100 plus. You poor, poor folks. That and the friggin heat and humidity you have to deal with come july and august. No thanks. I'll stay where the snow flies and the flies and other pests freeze to death.

I'm getting tired of NY, would love to move to St. Pete, or somewhere on the west coats of Fl, but my wife , as much as she hates the cold and loves boating, would never go for it in a million years, all her family is up and around here.. But as someone mentioned, we boat from may-2nd week in nov. approx 6.5 months..

I froze my ass off for 36 years... finally headed south. I can always afford the "hitch" to go visit friends and go skiing..... now every winter morning I have to drag my ass out of bed and shovel 10 inches of sunshine off the driveway so I can make it to work..... :D And to all my friends up north that say....... " Don't you miss the seasons?"
I reply.... Southern California has four very distinct seasons................. Fire.............. Flood............ Earthquake............ and Riot! ............. :D |

Not to turn this into a pi$$ing match, any home will take a beating in a direct hit. Yes Andrew hit hard, but if you go back and look what really got torn up, Homestead, mostly tree farms, and trailer parks. I did not live here then, so I am sure it was more devastating to those involved, but I can tell you, I live about 10 miles West of the coast, and this little POS Wood Framed, Aluminum sided house, (yes, there are a few wood framed houses in FL, and Yes, it did have Termite damage when I bought it) built in 1982 survived(along with 200 more just like it), and still has the original 22 year old roof on it!!!! It gets a little scary when the storms roll in during the season, but I will take it over the SNOW and sub zero temps any day!!!!
|
yeah!!! I've seen freeze/thaw cycles tear up more concrete than I've seen termites ruin houses..... termites you can kill..... winter freeze can't be avoided...

PLEASE do not encourage others to move to Florida. We have enough northerners now telling us how they do it up north. Like we give a fizzuck!
For those who think that there is no money in Florida, you may want to look again. Unless you are a union construction worker, there is good money to be made. Union jobs up north seem to pay MUCH higher for some reason. As far as leisure activities, to each his own. I would rather boat, fish, and play golf 12 months out of the year and go on vacation to go skiing. For those concerned about the ethnic make-up of the state. My advice is not to move to Miami or Texas or California or Washington DC or Maryland or Alabama or about 3 dozen other states. Florida is a big state and it is mostly white. Don't knock it until you try it. Mike |
I was just watching the weather channel, they were showing them plowing the gray slush crap off the roads. It looked lovely!:D
|
Ya, real lovely.

Don't knock it until you try it. Mike as far as the ethnic make up, I spoke more spanish in Fairfield County CT, than I have ever had to in South Florida. I can deal with having to speak a little spanish in exchange for seeing all of the little chiquitas on the beach!!!! As far as the termites, wood frame is not the standard in FL, Concrete block is, in fact I dont believe you can even build with wood on the first floor down here anymore(permits). My house is outside the city limits, and in an area that 20 years ago was totally uninhabited, therefore no need for building permits. There is money to be made in the South, if you know where to look. |

Maybe I'm the only one (and that wouldn't bother me), but I welcome the change of seasons. I enjoy the winter for the most part, even the snow, and we adjust our activities with each season. (try ice sailing sometime if you want a rush = to a high speed run in a boat)
I have always had a tendency of tiring of things when I do them repetitiously, and I have a funny feeling I would tire of boating if it was at my disposal every day, 12 months a year. The change of seasons and weather allow for a more varied lifestyle, which seems to fit me fine. To each his/her own, I guess. I think there is a certain 'anticipation' that northern boaters get with the coming of each new season that renews the excitement and fun of it year after year. I personally would hate to lose that feeling. There are definitely days that I need the warmth of the south- and jets make short order of getting that fix.:) |

Originally posted by cuda As soon as I read Rick's reply, I knew that was coming!:) that thought did not even cross my mind, if I were into that stuff, I am sure if I were, I would be in a little more than this. as far as change of season, we get it every day this time of year, 50 degrees in the morning, mid 70's by noon. |
Reading this thread you'd think that the only place to boat in the South is Florida. Here in Texas we will be boating in the 70-80 degree February weather before you know it. I can make more $$$ (and do) here than up north and we have no state income taxes in TX.
I can't stand the cold weather. I went to Vermont over Thanksgiving and almost froze to death. Everyone there was under the peculiar impression that it was a nice day and hadn't gotten cold yet. Yeah right. As much as I may like the idea of a hot rod snowmobile I think I'll stay here where the high today is 65 and the low is 60. (I wish I wouldn't have winterized my boat yet). |
HELL NO, I ain't fergettin'!!!!!!

AS soon as my truck is out of the shop, we are heading south for round 2 of the Florida home search. We should be there middle to late next week. Take us for a boat ride and prove your point :D
