Okay....How about this?

120 mph cat cruises consistently at 90-110

120 mph vee cruises consistently at 75-90

Most of the 120 mph vees I encounter are running mid 70's..... I'm cruising at 95-100.

Of course most 120 mph vees have a top speed under 95.

Just my thoughts.

LOL, ain't that the truth :p

Also most peoples 4-6' waves are really 2-4's.

Offshore boaters are alot like fishermen, they have lots of stories.................

No they just couldn't quite lap them.

(to "Lap" means to go one lap further in a race than your opponent)

I lost power to 1 engine in my 36 nortech at about 80 MPH. All it did was gently start turing the boat. When a cat is turning, the inside sponson is acually partially blocking water flow to the inside prop, so there is less power coming from that side, and the boat is turned by the force of the outside prop. I wonder what woudl happen to a twin step V if it lost power to one engine at 80+??? i wouldnt want to find out.

Who needs a big cat ? 30' 2100 HP run 150 all day while
drinking daiquiris!!! I don't think thats even possible in a
same dimension V.Of coarse were supposed to be a little
dumber in the south...

i don't consider 80mph in a 36 to be strung out. i would much rather be in a cat at high speed but the drive issue i pointed out is real. try locking up a drive or engine so the prop can't turn at 150 & things could get a little hairy. i've never experienced it but my aviation background suggests the further apart the props are the more severe the yaw reaction. does anyone out there have experience at real high speeds with this?? i think hot pursuit lost a prop at high speed but if that prop is still there but can't turn it should be more severe.

Locked up Drives
Broken Prop Shafts
Lost prop blades
Blown transmissions
Broken 1" Water pick up filled the right side of the
boat like a jacuzzi
Broken U joint assembles
Flex plate Failure

Oh well you get the picture, and never got into serious
trouble.I'm thinking the higher X may have saved
my ass.I will say that always when I locked the drive up
at high speeds something weaker would always fail!!
Usually the flex plate or input transmission shaft. All this
said I have filliped 25' at 115 because of driver error.
I don't get it whats the difference between 80 on a wet
bike are 180 in a 36-40.A little of the thread just my 2cents

sounds like you've had your share of carnage at high speed. i guess the flex plate or input shaft acts like a fuse. you have a ton of seat time in a smaller cat & i'm sure that has something to do with you staying safe through all your drive problems. i'm not so sure somebody with a lot less experience would react as calmly in the same situation. can't wait to see the new boat keith.

I lost power on starboad O/B at 96 in a 30 Spectre and I looked down to see what alarm went off saw my rpm's at 0 and the boat was still moving straight. I brought the throttles back slowly and never gave me any indication it was getting outa hand.
