Okay....How about this? 120 mph cat cruises consistently at 90-110 120 mph vee cruises consistently at 75-90 Most of the 120 mph vees I encounter are running mid 70's..... I'm cruising at 95-100. Of course most 120 mph vees have a top speed under 95. Just my thoughts. T2x LOL, ain't that the truth :p Also most peoples 4-6' waves are really 2-4's. Offshore boaters are alot like fishermen, they have lots of stories................. |

I wonder what woudl happen to a twin step V if it lost power to one engine at 80+??? i wouldnt want to find out.

Locked up Drives
Broken Prop Shafts Lost prop blades Blown transmissions Broken 1" Water pick up filled the right side of the boat like a jacuzzi Broken U joint assembles Flex plate Failure Oh well you get the picture, and never got into serious trouble.I'm thinking the higher X may have saved my ass.I will say that always when I locked the drive up at high speeds something weaker would always fail!! Usually the flex plate or input transmission shaft. All this said I have filliped 25' at 115 because of driver error. I don't get it whats the difference between 80 on a wet bike are 180 in a 36-40.A little of the thread just my 2cents |
Re: Whats Safer at 120 - V or Cat
sounds like you've had your share of carnage at high speed. i guess the flex plate or input shaft acts like a fuse. you have a ton of seat time in a smaller cat & i'm sure that has something to do with you staying safe through all your drive problems. i'm not so sure somebody with a lot less experience would react as calmly in the same situation. can't wait to see the new boat keith.

I lost power on starboad O/B at 96 in a 30 Spectre and I looked down to see what alarm went off saw my rpm's at 0 and the boat was still moving straight. I brought the throttles back slowly and never gave me any indication it was getting outa hand.
