Interesting points. I imagine the answer probably changes as the speed changes. At relatively "slow" speeds say 100 mph the power gained from the cold would likely overcome the increased drag from the cooler, denser water and the denser air. At the speeds the big cats are achieving I have no idea which would be more of a factor. I do know that I'll never get a chance to personally test the theory.

Roughly 1% increase in HP per 10 deg. drop in intake temp. So if the outside temp drops from 120-40 thats 80 deg. or 8 percent - Or - 80 hp on every thousand HP. Big freebie. Reggie ran at 34 degrees per his web site, also says he went 160 on a one way pass. Greg
