Stern Axed?

What did the idiot say now to get pulled off the air in 6 different States?

RebarBox 02-26-2004 06:44 AM

You summed him up to the 'T' - IDIOT!:)

dhlaw 02-26-2004 07:18 AM

He was pulled from our local market (Orlando) which really sucks. I have been a listener for years. This frankly doesnt suprise me though central florida is very conservative, and clear channel is based in texas. The FCC head is Colin Powells son, Howard has been supportive of Bush up until the last few weeks when he criticised him, the president of viacom testified last week before congress.....yadda yadda. I think what we are seeing is some of the side effects of the conservative shift. Home land security, Patriot act, constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, FCC tightening the reigns on radio. I am no bleeding heart liberal but I am a defender of people rights. If you dont like the content dont listen....... how goddamn hard is that to figure out??

And just to clear this up....... This country was not founded upon "christian" principles it was founded upon the concept of absolute freedoms and diversity.

Howard Stern should have been named Richard Stern , because he certainly is a DICK:o

dhlaw 02-26-2004 07:45 AM

I find it funny that alot of you guys dont like Howard.... He is a pioneer and non conformist, an attribute that many of us share by virtue of our passion for offshore boats. I guess that nobody will be concerned until Strip Poker is indicted for indecent materials posted in the uncensored section, and Steve and Jeff are named as co-conspirators and all of their boats are seized as well as every thing else they own. Think its far fetched?? Think about that the next time a picture of a nude girl gets posted and she looks young....... its not the age claimed its the actual age that counts (Traci Lords). We are heading down that path, in fact there are efforts to revisit the internet decency act.......... I am not trying to be a chicken little "sky is falling" kinda person but I see the way the system is changing and am concerned.

robyw1 02-26-2004 08:47 AM

I believe he was only pulled on Clear Channel stations. However that is almost every station.

He was dropped from all SIX (big deal) of Clear Channels stations that carried his show..... . He is still in several hundred other markets.

Although I don't listen, as I think he is tastless...I don't infringe on his right to broadcast, as long as he plays by the rules set down by his bosses....just like every other enployee in America. If he f*cks up, he should be held accountable

No black helicopters....... but I didnt mention Ben Kramer!!!!

mr_velocity 02-26-2004 09:21 AM

Story in the Post this morning said that Clear didn't like the interview about the Paris Hilton tapes.

He may be an idiot but when you're stuck in traffic on the NJ TPK he sure helps pass the time.

robyw1 02-26-2004 10:18 AM

I guess it is all in personal taste. I have never laughed at Stern; to me he is just not funny. But on the other hand I find Larry David on Curb your enthusiasm hilarious. I have never really liked Cheers but I never missed an episode of Frasier. Go figure..

Just wait until the day he gets Anna on there, starts telling her how her tennis career is all washed up and all she really has left is her body,,, and that we all should be the judge of that,,, and eventually convinces her to get NEKKKID !!!... :D :D :D... Come on Howard,, help some brotha's out.. :D

cuda 02-26-2004 11:24 AM

I never once liked Stern. I don't even think he has a quick wit. It doesn't take any talent to be rude and do everything for shock value. Bubba the Love Sponge got axed as well. I guess CC didn't enjoy that $775,000 fine. They probably knew because of the Janet Jackson fiasco that the gov was going to be looking into it and if they hadn't taken steps to correct what they've already been in trouble for the punishment would be even more harsh.

D-hlaw,

You are normally a very good source of information. But to post publically that our nation wasn't founded on Christian principles....

You might wish this to be the case, but the historical record clearly contridicts your statement.

stecz20 02-26-2004 12:14 PM

it is rather ironic how many bleeding heart libs im seeing on this board..im an american, my grandfather died so i can have my rights as as american.. i wonder how many of you that dont like howard, i bet most of like to go to strip bars , or maybe, like to watch porn...i do know many of you enjoy the naughty section of this board, but i guess thats ok. some of you even go as far to post naked pics of your loved ones, but i guess thats ok too... what most of you dont understand about howard, its not what is show is about , its what he has done to open the eyes of some of these very closed minded people. you may not like what he has to say, but if you dont see that he is a genius and a pioneer in his own right you are blind. how many of you are successful doing what you love, with your own original idea. how many of you changed the business your in for the better. i am a howard stern fan, i dont always like what he has to say, but at least he has the balls to say it. howard stern in a small way is what this country is about... having the freedom to do and say what you want. being who you want to be... me, im going to be an american and enjoy burning my fuel and pissing people off with my loud ass rig... Im Mr. Wonderful thats why!!!!!!!!

jdnca1 02-26-2004 12:27 PM

Last I checked we live in a FREE COUNTRY that many have sacrificed to provide for us. If you don't like Stern or Bubba or whoever else, then exercise your freedom to change the station. Otherwise quit whining, because you know what to expect when tuning into those shows. What should they cut out next?? Leno, Letterman, HBO?

I'm a Republican and feel this way.

Larry David is a F@#$ing Communist. He is on par with Michael Moore. I used to watch his show, but not after some of the comments he has made about Bush and the war. Sorry for the thread hi-jacking...

now back to the Stern debate.

robyw1 02-26-2004 12:39 PM

Just to clarify I don't think he should be pulled off. If he attracts an audience then by all means let free market reign, more power to Stern. I just said that to me he doesn't seem funny or interesting to listen to. You can be mad at Clear Channel if you want to but they are well within their right to heave him if they want to. I think your comments need to be directed at the FCC.

The fact is that Clear Channel is a private company. They are going to run it how ever they like. But, if the general public does not like the direction they go, well the ratings will drop and they will loose money. Personally I dont care for Stern one way or the other. I found some of his stuff amusing and other stuff stupid. But I agree that he should be able to do his own thing. If your offended, change the channel. If his parent company or one of his broadcasters doesnt like his show, its their right to cancel it. Now, if it gets to the point where the government steps in to start dictating what we can watch or listen to, I have a problem with that. The foundation of this country is supposed to be freedom. Its been our calling for a couple hundred years. As far as being founded on Christian Principles, to a degree yes to a degree no. Just be carefull when using generalizations without looking at all the facts.

You are incorrect on this, see the seperation of powers clause, writings of the founding fathers, federalist papers, etc. Why would the founders battle the British and an oppressive religious based monarchy to establish one of their own?? The whole concept of our country is a mixing of social and idealogical differences. This thought that america is a "Christian" society and the Christian right forcing of their morals and values on everyone else is offensive.

Well, they are up today so I am guessing that not everyone thinks the dropping of Stern will be bad for their business. Let's not forget. This is a business they are running. If Howard is costing them money in lost advertisers or listeners then they are wise to dump him.

I personally think he is a half wit that does nothing but try to shock his audience. He is a lot like all of the reality TV shows that are on now. Don't really like either of them.

This book was also published as a law review article.

My thoughts exactly!!!

The FCC got all bent out of shape when Janet Jackson exposed her tit, because it was NOT expected. People should be free to listen (or not listen to whom ever they want. I don't listen to Howard Stern or any other radio "talk show", but I feel that if the demand is there, then it should be allowed.

However, on the other side... Clear Channel should have the "freedom" to air (and not air) anything they want, as long as they obey the law. They have the "right" to drop Stern.

If the people still want to listen to him, then another local station will pick him up.

Just my two-cents... :D
