Say goodbye to the vinyl graphics. We have decided to remove them and run the boat plain white with only the Apache logo on the side. If we can work out a design that we like and if we can swing the cost, we are planning a paint job after the summer.

Removing the vinyl exposed part of the blue Apache logo that was on the boat before the previous owner covered it up.

Here it is again.

This is an old picture of the boat that shows the blue logo that was covered up with all of this vinyl.

Here is the dash. The gages are removed in preparation of installing a GPS/plotter in the middle of the dash.
The big holes on the top on both sides each held a Ritchie compass. We are replacing the old ones with new ones that will work properly and look better. The old ones were foggy and were rusting badly. The speedo in the top center of the dash is also coming out and being replaced with a GPS speedo. The current speedo is badly faded and lacking fluid in the gage itself. This will also allow us to remove the speedo's pitot tube from the back of the boat. |

Here is a rough idea of what the dash will look like when completed.

i loved that boat when it was all white. i kick myself in the behind for not buying that boat last year, i drove up to Lake Worth last year when we were at the boat show and looked it over, mouse terds and all. After we got back to St louis i was getting some prices together on some of the things i wanted to do to it, and getting ready to make an offer and try to buy the boat when we had a house fire, and that pretty much took precedent. Your one lucky guy.

So far so good. Tres and his crew are moving right along on this thing. They still have quite a few odds and ends to take care of, but they are not wasting any time and seem to be getting this stuff done very quickly. We should be ready for sea trial very soon. Then we can let Tres work his magic and get this thing dialed in. I'll keep you all posted.

Oh yea. The new trailer should be finished in about two weeks, so the trailer that is under this boat is now for sale. It is a Myco tandem dually with a water tank and a fuel tank. It also has two 8' boxes, one 4' box and two spare tires. The trailer is in need of refurbishing. It needs new tires, a good paint job and new wiring. Bill from Myco said that I should list it around $6K. If anybody is interested, please feel free to e-mail me.
[email protected] I don't have any pics of the trailer by itself, but here are a few different angles of the trailer with the boat on it. |

HotDuck,
Any more recent pictures of the Dash since you have been back???? Just curious. DPT    |
Later: Sometimes I wonder. When I add up the dollars that have gone into this boat so far, I really wonder! :D As you well know, this boat needed a lot of work. It is finally starting to come around, but it still has a long way to go. We are just about finished with things for this year. Next winter, finances allowing, we will go back at it again and take care of the cosmetic work. In the mean time, if you ever get to Ocean City or if you see us anywhere this summer, come and say hello and we'll go for a run!
|
Hey Dennis. The picture of the dash above is the most recent. I'll post new ones as I get them.
I also have some good pics of you from the wedding! :p :D I'll post them later tonight when I get home. |
good looking!!!!
that boat rocks! FYI it was first and only apache i've run in :D |
Email them to me!!!! I can only imagine what they look like. Not to sure I want the OSO family to see. LOL!!!!
|
Nice looking real good!
|
That is a fine looking Apache!
Is it alright to ask you appoximately how much the entire project will cost or would you prefer to keep that dollar amount private? Good luck with the boat. Ed |
Saw that rig at Tres's shop a few weeks back very impressive HD. Congrats.
CigFox- I might PM that question but out here in the public i think it is somewhat inappropriate to put HD in the situation to tell you that it's none of your business without making himself looking bad for an indiscreet question of your part. |
I LIKE IT!!!!!
|
Ok...Consider the question unasked. I am probably too curious about things that interest me , but are none of my business.
Good luck with the Apache. Ed |
Hot Duck,
The boat is really looking sweet. I cant wait to see it when it is all finished. |
Hot Duck
im sure when your done with it you will be a very proud owner. there is alot of history with that boat. Good luck and thanks for the offer. keep the pictures coming later |
Lookin good:)
I hope to see it in person one day:cool: |
Thank you all for the kind words. If any of you are ever in OC, send me a message. I am always looking for a reason to go for a run! :D
DPTMotorsports: You have e-mail. I was going to post a few pics here, but I had a moment of mercy and e-mailed them to you instead. CigaretteFirefox: No harm, no foul brother. You have a PM. |
hey will, you have stranger hours than i...rig looks great, glad everything worked out for the better..where are the motors from? Mr. Wonderful
|
CigaretteFirefox: I could not get the PM to go through, so I'll post it here. It's not a big secret anyway because everybody here knows what boats and their parts costs. I guess that you could say we are all in the same boat! :D :D :D OK. That was bad. :p
As everybody knows, we have been working on this Apache for almost a year now. Including the original purchase price, we have 150-160K in the boat so far. That includes everything except the trailer and the money we got back from selling the old parts. The most expensive items were obviously the engines. The only thing we used from the old engines are the blocks, and those were even bored and decked by a machine shop before starting the rebuild. Basically they are brand new engines now from the crank to the carbs. We even replaced the accessories (starters, alternators, steering pumps, etc) because the old ones were just plain worn out and marginal. Better safe than sorry. Another big ticket item was the purchase of new Huber 1330 transmissions. The boat had crash boxes when we bought it, which some people like better than transmissions. For racing I agree that crash boxes are the way to go, but for a pleasure boat I prefer transmissions. I am not saying that one is better than the other. It is just a matter of personal preference. The last big expense was the new trailer. The old trailer pictured in the thread was a bumper pull style. The hitch on my F-450 is only rated for 14K pounds and is the largest that I could find. Figuring that the boat weighs around 12K pounds the way it is, without a cabin or fuel (holds 400 gallons), I did not want to chance being over weight in the event of a traffic stop or a traffic accident. For this reason we are building a new Myco gooseneck. It has everything from the tool boxes to a fresh water tank and pump for washing and flushing the boat. This will allow us to take care of the boat after a run no matter where we are. If you are gonna do it, you might as well do it right. Right? Anyhow, the rest of the money was spent on a lot of miscellaneous items. We rewired some things, added some electronics, fixed or replaced some things that were not working, replaced some things that were missing, made cockpit and travel covers, etc... That is all that is going to happen this year. The boat still needs cosmetic work, but the electrical and mechanical items are all brand new now. Next winter, if finances allow, we want to paint it, add a simple cabin, re-upholster the cockpit and change a few more odds and ends. When that is done the boat will be back to brand new condition...where it deserves to be! :D Some people may think that we are crazy for dumping money into an old boat and restoring it, but I plan to keep this boat for a long time and want to do it right the first time. It may not be the fastest or the best looking when it is done, but it will be done the way that I want it! I have had state of the art race boats and even just sold one, but now I am changing gears and I just want to cruise off into the sunset in this old resin bucket! :D |
stecz20: I am at the fire house. 7pm-7am. OSO helps pass the time! :D The engines were built by Carolina. This is who Tres recommended and this board gave me a favorable reply towards them as well. I did have a few negative comments when I asked the board about them, but the favorable comments outweighed the bad ones 10 to 1. They sound great on the hose, but we'll see how they actually run in another week or two. I'll keep you posted.

will looks great....talk to you soon... dave
|
the previous owner had a motorcycle and a race car that matched that vinyl color scheme correct??
|
by the way will, i think im putting in a order for that f-450 this april or may... thanks for all your help on that... dave

Hot Duck;
I got a look at the boat a couple of weeks ago when I was in town for the show. It looks great. I`m glad that you stuck with it to see the project through to this point. Congratulations, hang in there and I`m sure that you will have a great boat when all is said and done. Nothing that is worth anything comes easy. Roger |

Nice ride Hot Duck. :)
I did not see if you posted hp and what you think this thing will do for speed? I rode in Medicine Man last year at about 80 and the ride was amazing, I assume your's will be the same. Good luck NK |
I'm with Too old...I think you will have one h*ll of a boat for the money when you are complete. I like the idea of showing up to any event and being the ONLY one with the boat I'm in. I don't think you will run across to many other resin buckets that big in this life time :)

Will,
The boat looks great!, also congratulations on your recent marriage! Bob |
