My vote is for the Garmin also. Had the GPSIII+ a couple yrs back and it was the best in my opinion. Now have a fixed mount just for the screen size. Both used the Mapsource that could be downloaded from your home PC for the real small details of both on land and water.
Highly reccommend any with the mapping. Anything thing less is just a handheld speedo.

The 76 has 1 meg of memory and has fewer features, but still contains most of the important navigational features.
The BIG difference between the two, is that the 60 can accept Garmin "BlueChart" information, the 76 can't. Bluechart is what you really want for marine navigation, as they are direct reproductions of real NOAA charts.
