OT-forklifts

I know this really belongs in the off topic section, but I was hoping for the greater exposure GD gets. I'll punch the thread when it's due.

Do any members specialize or know forklifts? I'm looking at really cheap one, but it has a bad transmission. How hard/expensive are these to fix? I think it's a Yale, 4,000lb, propane.

Re: OT-forklifts

I have 11 forklifts from 2,000 lb. to 30,000 lb., and it just depends on model and age of the lift. I can look in to it if you have this information.

Re: OT-forklifts

Tim, I know of a really decent "down to earth" forklift repair guy if you care to ask him. He repairs all of mine and is very reasonable and honest.

MW (?) forklifts in Waukesha, Jim is owner 59/164 bypass...by Don Jacobs...has a TON of new and used. This guy ships parts stuff all over North America. You can also give him a call for another opinion. I'm sure he has alot of cheap deals.

Re: OT-forklifts

Downtown-I've been trying to contact them for some time now. Can't leave a message because the box is full and nobody ever picks up. I'm really trying to a hold of them because I know they have a big lot full of burned up junk that would be perfect.

HP-please do get me that name & number. I need to know if this thing is going to be repairable.

War-hopefully this info will help: Hyster, S50XL, S/N A187V02290E
All that I know is that trans is bad. The forklift won't move. Nothing more.

Cord,,,,my advice is to stay away from the guy in Waukesha...unless you are strictly buying some part that is non mechanical... We have bought some used forks from him..anything else look out...

I e-mailed ya the info.

He'd be OK for a whole lift? I'm only looking to spend a couple of hun, so I'm proably buying a POS anyways. Hard to get ripped off when you asked them to.

Re: OT-forklifts

Tim,
I'm in the forklift biz.

Automatic transmissions in forklifts
have whats called an inching circuit,
this basically bleeds off clutch pack
pressure when the inching/ brake pedal
is depressed, ( it acts like a clutch in
a manual transmission)

I believe on that model of unit, there's
a linkage from the pedal to the valve
body.

Check and see if it's moving accordingly.

That's going to be the "cheap" fix, anything
else, ........$$$$$

Re: OT-forklifts

Yea, I don't own the lift yet. The thing is $600 as it lays. I presume the guy had somebody come in and diagnose it, and if they did, they would have found that easy fix. For the sake of being protected, lets assume that it's something major in the trans. Are these things available used? Is it something that I can replace myself or must it be done in the shop? Next, just what numbers are we talking here?
