We also watched uncut 3 Stooges, Bugs Bunny and other "violent" shows and didn't feel the need to drop an anvil on someones head.

1964 for me. Grew up playing on the banks of a river that wound through a very old city. Not exactly the cleanest place to grow up. No video games, No 360 channels of nothing on. We built forts and rode bicycles, not mountain bikes. We knew when to
be home,(most times). A garage full of all kinds of junk was a kids paradise. Going to a place like Mcdonalds back then was an event, not a supper. Anyone remember Bosco? We made our own fun. If you wanted to build a go-cart, you had to build two of them, just so you could race your buddy down a hill.As someone said above, brakes never seemed to be an available option on those early model carts. At the end of our street, was a dirt lot where a burned down apt building used to be. The place would fill in with water after a heavy rain, and it was full of bricks scattered around. We would dare each other to ride through the water on our bikes as fast as we could, waiting to see if one of us would hit an underwater brick with our front tire, guaranteeing a good laugh for the ones watching. Oh yeah, one more thing, we all knew better than to disrespect the police, and knew when to shut-up.

My friend and I used to ride our bikes to Lake Michigan which was about 7 miles away and hang out at the beach all day, and we were only 13. Never thought about anyone hurting ya or snatching ya. That was also when the beach used to be always clean and not "fishy" smelling.

The only time I remember being inside was watching the black and white tv only when it was after dark, Mom used to ring the cow bell, we could hear it for blocks, if we did not come running our "ass was grass"

Yea! At school, and then again at home.

Even though I got paddled in grade school, now that I have a 2 yr old daughter, I have to admit, AT THIS POINT my attitude is don't dare touch her. You tell me and I'll take care of it.
I would think that's every dads attitude about his little girl though.

I’m a ’66 model.
Bicycle demolition derby.
BB gun shoot outs.
Dodge ball.
Mini bikes without helmets.

How did we survive our youth?
